What's new in opera? Everything you can imagine--and much that you couldn't conceive of--all in the space of a few days in New York.

Music overflowing with the elegance and grace of four masterful French composers fills the program when the Brevard Symphony Orchestra presents The French Connection on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne. Gabriel Faure's sweetly somber Pavane opens the concert, followed by one of the most famous works for cello and orchestra - the First Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saens. Rising star Cicely Parnas makes her BSO debut with this tuneful showpiece. After intermission, two suites originally composed for piano are heard in their orchestral versions - Claude Debussy's charming Petite Suite is a setting of four miniature tone pictures. Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin salutes not just the great French Baroque master Francois Couperin - but also serves as a musical tribute to friends and colleagues of Ravel's who were lost during World War I. 

The distinguished American Brass Quintet releases their new recording, Perspectives, today on Summit Records.

As of January 1, 2017, Ernie Harburg, son of the legendary lyricist E.Y. 'Yip' Harburg, has stepped down as President of the Yip Harburg Foundation, to be succeeded by Yip's daughter-in-law, Deena Rosenberg Harburg, who is presently the foundation's Artistic Director.

Chamber music enthusiasts will want to mark their calendars for the start of Music Mountain's 88thSeason! Music Mountain President, Nicholar Gordon announced America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival will kick off on June 11th with a summer featuring Beethoven and favorite Piano Quintets! The Chamber Music Series will also welcome Music Mountain premieres, first time guests, and returning favorites! New York Festival of Song continues its NYFOS Mainstage series at Merkin Concert Hall on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. with a sumptuous recital entitled Pyotr the Great: The Songs of Tchaikovsky and His Circle.

NYFOS Next-the "invaluable contemporary-music series" from the 'indefatigable art-song devotees' (The New Yorker) at New York Festival of Song-continues Today, December 8 at 7:00 p.m. at National Sawdust with a showcase of new music and poetry explored by CHRISTOPHER CERRONE & FRIENDS. 

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the World Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner Wynton Marsalis's The Jungle (Symphony No. 4), commissioned by the Philharmonic as the first of The New York Commissions, with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis; William Bolcom's Trombone Concerto with Principal Trombone Joseph Alessi as soloist; and Copland's Quiet City, featuring Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin and English horn player Grace Shryock in her Philharmonic solo debut.

The Royal Conservatory of Music has announced its November 2016 concerts, including: TD Jazz: The Art of the Trio continues with Stefano Bollani Trio & Roberto Occhipinti Trio; Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage features Noa and Aviva Chernick; Chucho Valdes and Joe Lovano return to Koerner Hall; Generation Next introduces the rising stars of tomorrow; and debuts by Deborah Voigt and Viktoria Mullova with Accademia Bizantina. A new season of NYFOS Next opens Today, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. at National Sawdust with GABRIELA LENA FRANK. Frank curates and hosts an hour-long evening of her vocal works and those of her friends and colleagues Avner Dorman and Derek Bermel.

New York Festival of Song opens its 2016-17 Mainstage season at Merkin Concert Hall with two evenings devoted to the Rodgers family-Richard, Mary, and Adam Guettel (with rare unpublished songs by both Guettel and his mother Mary).

As prolific as he is provocative, John Zorn returns to Composer Portraits with five new works, all slated to receive their world premiere performances. A dream team of new music superstars comes together to give voice to Zorn's newest creations, affirming once more the depth and breadth of his musical palette, which draws on punk, jazz, klezmer, classical, and other genres-spanning continents and centuries.

The Oakland Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan open the 2016-2017 season with the return of charismatic baritone Hadleigh Adams singing Mahler's Ruckert Lieder and the debut of the Delphi Trio performing Paul Juon's  Episodes Concertantes Today, October 14, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. The program opens with Clark Suprynowicz's Red States, Blue States (2008) in recognition of the elections this November, and concludes with Elgar's In the South.
