"The Blade of Jealousy," a play adapted by playwright Henry Ong from Tirso De Molina's "Jealous of Herself," will receive a staged reading at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble.  Melchor falls in love with a mysterious veiled lady in a cathedral, simply from a glimpse of her hand. When he meets Magadelena, he is less enamored, not realizing that Magadelena and the veiled lady are one and the same person. A madcap comedy of disguise and deception ensues.

An official launch reception for accomplished photographer Tina Freeman's new book Artist Spaces, New Orleans will be held at the Ogden Museum of Art in New Orleans on Wednesday, October 29, from 6-8 pm. Dear Bookworks Bookworm, I read a book this month that I had every intention of liking, but didn't. It had a story line that interested me but the characters were one dimensional and flat and the writing that was not worth writing home about. Rather than review a book that disappoints, I decided to review a movie that I had just seen with Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, Words and Pictures. This is a movie well worth the ticket price. It is always a pleasure seeing a movie where actors do what they should be doing best, acting and where writers are doing what they should be doing best, writing.

Daughters of The Dragon - A Comfort Woman's Story, a new novel from Minnesota-based author William Andrews, seeks to expose Americans to Japan's forced sexual enslavement of women during WWII euphemistically called comfort women. The Japanese government, headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, appears to be moving to deny the atrocity. NYTimes article on Japan's move to revisit the comfort women situation.

Both professional and amateur singers will compete for opportunities for prize monies and roles in Opera Theater SummerFest's 2013 season. For a second year, Anna Singer, WQED-FM mid-day host and music programmer, emcee for the Mildred Miller International Voice Competition for emerging professional opera singers and Opera Champion of Pittsburgh for regional amateur divas and divos.

SummerFest invites everyone who loves music and theater to step into some of opera's most beloved works, to experience a suite of witty world premiere music dramas, to discover seldom-performed Mozart masterpieces, and to enjoy an array of free outdoor performances and events.
