Richard Kind, Karen Akers Host The Play Co's CABARET GOURMET '09 4/27

Off-Broadway's The Play Company brings together some of NYC's top chefs and theater artists for its sixth annual gala CABARET GOURMET 2009 -- a unique evening hosted by Broadway's Richard Kind (THE TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE and THE PRODUCERS) and featuring musical entertainment by cabaret legend Karen Akers (NINE and GRAND HOTEL), along with savory and sweet dishes prepared by chefs from several of the city's most celebrated restaurants -- on Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at the American Airlines Theatre Penthouse (227 West 42nd Street) in Manhattan.

Oberon Theater Ensemble Announces AMERICAN RAPTURE Series

OBERON THEATRE ENSEMBLE is pleased to announce their series AMERICAN RAPTURE, which includes Hello Out There by William Saroyan and world premiere plays by Alex Dinelaris (nominated Lucile Lortel/Drama Desks), directed by Alex Dinelaris. AMERICAN RAPTURE plays a three-week limited engagement at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row (410 W 42nd St). Performances begin Saturday, February 14th and continue through Sunday, March, 1st. An evening of short plays, some humorous, some tragic, explore the unique mixture of loneliness and hope, which make up the American Experience. Playwright/director Alex Dinelaris, who was nominated for a Lucille Lortel (Best Musical) and two Drama Desk Awards (Book & Lyrics) for his work on the off-Broadway hit, ZANNA DON?T!, weaves his way through modern relationships, religious hypocrisy, love, loss and the endless cycle of violence that threatens to swallow our society whole. The evening culminates with William Saroyan?s Hello Out There, the powerful tale of two outcasts who find love at the most unlikely of times, in the most unlikely of places. AMERICAN RAPTURE will be presented in conjunction with William Shakespeare?s Much Ado About Nothing, as part of Oberon Theatre Ensemble?s Winter Rep 09. MCC Opens PlayLab Series to the Public; Complete Lineup Announced

MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, Artistic Directors; William Cantler, Associate Artistic Director; Blake West, Executive Director) today announced that their heretofore private PlayLab new play readings by members of the company's Playwrights' Coalition are going public.

WET Launches 8th Season With 'A Perfect Couple'

WET (Women's Expressive Theater, Inc.) launches its 8th season with the World Premiere of Brooke Berman's A PERFECT COUPLE. Produced on an Off-Broadway contract, this limited engagement production is directed by Maria Mileaf (THE ARGUMENT at The Vineyard). Previews begin June 7th at the DR2 (103 East 15th Street) where WET became the first theater company in residence last year.

Play Company hosts Cabaret Gourment gala 4/28

The Play Company hosts its fifth annual Cabaret Gourmet gala on Monday, April 28 at The Metropolitan Pavilion. This year honoring the renowned editor and author Judith Jones, Cabaret Gourmet is a theatrical celebration of food, glorious food and a tribute to the shared spirit of the culinary and theater arts.

The Play Company Presents Premiere of 'Rainbow Kiss'

The Play Company proudly presents the U.S. premiere of Simon Farquhar's Rainbow Kiss as the next production in its 2007-2008 season. Directed by Will Frears, Rainbow Kiss will play a limited Off-Broadway run from Wednesday, March 12 - Sunday, April 13 at 59E59 Theaters (Theater B / 59 East 59th Street). Official Opening is set for Saturday, March 22 @ 8:15 PM. Rainbow Kiss starts with a kiss and ends in blood. Keith, raising his infant son alone while holding down a dead-end job, stakes his future on a one-night stand with Shazza, an upwardly mobile beautician he meets at a club. She has a master plan and he doesn't belong. Yet she keeps coming back for more. Set in Aberdeen, Scotland's 'Granite City,' Rainbow Kiss paints a stark portrait of life and love on the dark side of the city's oil-fueled boom. Will Frears directs the American premiere of Simon Farquhar's acclaimed debut play, which garnered much attention when it premiered in the Royal Court Theatre's fiftieth anniversary season in 2006.

Play Company Begins Season with 'Bad Jazz' Nov.4-25

The Play Company kicks off its 2007-2008 season with the American premiere of Bad Jazz by Robert Farquhar. Directed by Trip Cullman, Bad Jazz will play a limited Off-Broadway run from Sunday, November 4 - Sunday, November 25 at the Ohio Theatre (66 Wooster Street). Official opening is set for Sunday, November 11 at 7PM.

NYTW to Present Aswat: Voices of Palestine, May 5-6

New York Theatre Workshop Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director Lynn Moffat have announced a two-day program of readings, Aswat: Voices of Palestine, set to take place on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 12:00pm, and Sunday, May 6, beginning at 2:00pm.
