Classic Stage Company (CSC), under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Jessica R. Jenen, will present VENUS IN FUR, a new play by David Ives, directed by Walter Bobbie, beginning performances January 13 at Classic Stage Company (136 East 13th Street).

Fred Applegate, George Hearn, David Patrick Kelly, Michael McCormick, Rondi Reed, Elena Shaddow, James Snyder and Ted Sutherland have been cast in Fanny, the 50th Encores! musical produced by New York City Center since 1994 and the second Encores! production of the season. Fanny, running February 4 - 7, has music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S.N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, and is based on Marcel Pagnol's trilogy Marius, Fanny and Cesar. Fanny will be directed by Mark Bruni and choreographed by Lorin Latarro with music direction by Rob Berman.

"I am delighted to announce our Fantastic 58th Season of Musicals," states Christopher B. Manos, Producer of Theater of the Stars. "We have some wonderful world-class entertainment in store for 2010, from old-fashioned fun to brand new shows that are sure to dazzle. We are excited to bring the incomparable Melissa Gilbert to Atlanta in the new stage version of Little House on the Prairie, The Musical, to bring back Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, and to welcome the Blue Man Group for the very first time to our season. We've been asked for a long time to get The Sound of Music on our series and I'm pleased to say that we have it, along with the absolutely beautiful national touring production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Lastly, we'll add some comic relief with 9 TO 5: The Musical based on the smash hit movie with Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton."

Stage and screen star Obba Babatunde will return to the CHICAGO stage next week as Billy Flynn while Brent Barrett (who re-assumed the role last fall) is on vacation. His run will last from January 10 - January 17. Brent Barrett will return on January 18.

Singer Michelle Williams is CHICAGO-Bound

It has been confirmed that former Destiny's Child songbird Michelle Williams is Chicago-bound. Williams will portray the wannabe star-turned-murderess Roxie Hart for a limited run from February 8 to March 28. Williams will be taking over the role from Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who debuted in the revival on December 1.

Alley Theatre presents the world premiere of the new musical Wonderland about Alice, a children's book writer in Manhattan who is suffering through a creative block, estranged from her husband and alienated from her daughter. It takes a trip to a strange-yet-familiar Wonderland for her to regain her life's balance and again find the love and everyday magic that reside in us all - if we know how to look. With a book by Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy (The Civil War), lyrics by Jack Murphy, music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlett Pimpernel, The Civil War), and directed by Gregory Boyd, Wonderland begins previews Friday, January 15, opens officially Wednesday, January 20 and runs through Sunday, February 14.

A sleek and sexy production of Kander and Ebb's brilliant musical, CHICAGO, is currently playing the Fox Theatre for a brief run (January 1-3, 2010). If you've only ever seen the film version, then you should do yourself a favor and check out the more minimalistic staging carried over from the 1996 revival by producers Barry and Fran Weissler.
