The Wilma Theater concludes its 2009 - 2010 Season with the U.S. Premiere of Leaving, by Václav Havel. The first play in 20 years from playwright and former Czech President Havel, Leaving will receive its U.S. Premiere production under co-Artistic Director Jiri Zizka's direction, with Academy Award® nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) starring in the role of ex-Chancellor Dr. Vil?m Rieger.

The Wilma Theater Celebrates Havel's Legacy 5/30

Inspired by the U.S. Premiere of Leaving, by Václav Havel, The Wilma Theater will conduct two symposium sessions exploring Havel's legacy and the historical and dramatic background of Leaving, his first new play in over 20 years.

The Wilma Theater will close the curtain on the World Premiere production of Language Rooms, a black comedy that exposes the divided loyalties among today's immigrants, discovering the rising cost of the American Dream, on April 4th. The play, from rising Arab-American playwright Yussef El Guindi, is directed by the Wilma's co-Artistic Director Blanka Zizka.

Wilma Theater Examines Arab-American Identity & American Foreign Policy, 3/28

In conjunction with the World Premiere production of Yussef El Guindi's Language Rooms, The Wilma Theater will welcome two distinguished panels of artists, scholars, and writers to discuss American foreign policy and Arab-American identity. Good Vibrations and Stress Positions: The Legacy of "Enhanced Interrogation" will occur on Sunday, March 14 at 4:30 pm, and A Land of Sour Milk and Honey: the (Arab-) American Dream Today will take place the following Sunday, March 28 at 4:30 pm. These symposia will present insightful and wide-ranging debates exploring political and personal issues central to Language Rooms and to understanding the effects of American power not only abroad but in our own country.

The Wilma Theater opens its 2009-2010 Season with Coming Home, the latest work by internationally acclaimed playwright Athol Fugard ? the second most frequently produced playwright at the Wilma, following Tom Stoppard. The Wilma?s production of Coming Home, directed by the Wilma?s co-Artistic Director Blanka Zizka, is only the play?s third production, after its premiere at New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre earlier this year.

PYP Hosts Reading At The Wilma On 4/6, At Arden 4/18

Philadelphia Young Playwrights (PYP) continues to break new ground, promoting literacy through playwriting to students throughout the School District of Philadelphia, while building lasting collaborations with professional theater companies. Two forthcoming events showcase the results of PYP's year-round programming, Play Development Series and the growing contributions of Philadelphia's outstanding theatre community, as PYP works to sustain theatre arts education for Philadelphia's youth amidst widespread budget cuts and diminishing arts education.

'Now That We're Together' Panel To Be Held At The Wilma 3/9

The Wilma Theater welcomes a distinguished group of speakers on Monday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. for 'Now That We're Together, Everything Feels Better,' a panel discussion in conjunction with the theater's East Coast Premiere of Scorched, by acclaimed Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad. Directed by Blanka Zizka, the production continues the theater's 30th anniversary season and runs from February 25 through March 29, 2009.
