Philadelphia's all comedy theatre company is pleased to present its newest original production, The Big Time: New Vaudeville for the Holidays. The Big Time: New Vaudeville for the Holidays continues 1812's tradition of creating new work based in classic comedy styles, celebrating an era or area of comedic history. Past productions include Always a Lady (women in comedy), Double Down (classic double acts), Our Show of Shows (original and classic material celebrating Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows), and the audience favorite This Is The Week That Is (political satire). Created and directed by Jennifer Childs, The Big Time reunites Ms. Childs with Scott Greer, Dave Jadico and Tony Braithwaite, the creative team that originated 1812 Productions' first such production, also called The Big Time (2000)-a revue of classic vaudeville routines-and welcomes 1812 favorite Greg Nix to the process.

Walnut Street Theatre continues its landmark 205TH season with an all-new production of Broadway's family musical, ELF. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for Charles Randolph-Wright's world premiere drama Love in Afghanistan. Randolph-Wright, a Resident Playwright through Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute and director of Motown the Musical currently on Broadway, joins forces with director Lucie Tiberghien (MCC Theater's Don't Go Gentle) to bring to life the tale of two fantastically different people discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance, religious differences and political unrest. Love in Afghanistan runs tonight, October 11-November 17, 2013 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.
Crush: A Storytelling Benefit for Gilda's Club of Delaware Valley features a line-up of Philadelphia funny ladies telling original stories on the theme "crush." The evening will be hosted by award-winning Philadelphia storyteller Hillary Rea and will feature performances by Ms. Rea, Shannon DeVido, Cathy Simpson, Bi Jean Ngo, Anna Roisman, Juliet Hope Wayne, Emily McGraw, and Jennifer Childs. Ms. Rea says of the night's theme, 'Everyone's had a crush at some point in their life. Those initial butterflies, day dreams, and interactions with a crush are always more humorous in retrospect. Even when your heart is crushed by a crush, with some distance, there is bound to be a funny story worth telling.'

Native Voices at the Autry continues its vital role as the country's only equity theatre company dedicated exclusively to developing the work of Native American playwrights with a free staged reading of Measure for Measure: An Indian Boarding School Comedy, a bawdy adaptation of Shakespeare's play set in the Old West by Randy Reinholz (Choctaw*), founder and producing artistic director of Native Voices at the Autry, on Thursday, October 24, 2013, 7:30 p.m., at the Wells Fargo Theater at The Autry National Center in Griffith Park.
