Richard B. Worley, chairman of The Philadelphia Orchestra, joined Opera Philadelphia Chairman Daniel K. Meyer today to announce plans for a first-ever artistic collaboration in the 2013-14 season-a theatrically-inspired production of Richard Strauss's compelling and provocative masterpiece, Salome. The performances, set to take place on Thursday, May 8, and Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall, will be led by Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin. With this initial collaboration, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia reinforce their strong commitment to delivering more diverse offerings to audiences in Philadelphia and beyond through groundbreaking performances and innovative collaborations. This new partnership leverages Opera Philadelphia's reputation as a dynamic producer of theatrical opera, and The Philadelphia Orchestra's standing as one of the preeminent orchestras in the world.

Wolf Trap Opera Company Announces Summer 2013 Season and Artist Roster

Wolf Trap Opera Company, one of America's top residency programs for emerging opera professionals, announces its 2013 summer season and the line-up of Filene Young Artists and Studio Artists. The diverse roster includes 36 up-and-coming singers selected in a comprehensive nationwide audition tour. The season will feature three new productions, including Verdi's masterpiece La traviata (July 19). The Company, joined by the National Symphony Orchestra, will celebrate the composer's bicentennial birthday with a new production featuring a video projection-based scenic design created specifically for the Filene Center, Wolf Trap's outdoor amphitheater. This is the first Wolf Trap Opera Company produced La traviata at the Filene Center since 1977 and was made possible in part through generous philanthropic support from Wolf Trap Foundation Board member Dan D'Aniello and his wife, Gayle, as well as through the generosity of other loyal Wolf Trap Opera Company supporters. The Company will also present original productions of Rossini's The Journey to Reims (June 21, 23, 29) and Verdi's Falstaff (August 9, 11, 14, 17) at its summer home, The Barns at Wolf Trap.

Little's long-awaited debut full-length opera, Dog Days, created in collaboration with librettist Royce Vavrek, and based on the eponymous short story by Judy Budnitz (1998), receives its world premiere, opening a run of five performances: Sep. 29, Oct. 6 at 8:00 PM; Sep. 30, Oct. 7 at 3:00 PM; Oct. 5 at 7:30 PM. The fully-staged production, directed by Robert Woodruff, premieres at Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater in Montclair, NJ.

'The Dido Project' takes Henry Purcell's legendary English opera, Dido and 'neas, to new heights by setting it in our current, high-tech, information-driven world. Through a combination of video projections, audio recording and live performance, we will witness Dido's actions and glimpse her inner thoughts and feelings on her journey from untouchable power to absolute ruin. Led by theatre and opera director Pat Diamond, 'The Dido Project' features the creative talents of some of the most original artists in music and theatre today, including the renowned Sybarite Chamber Players and rising opera stars David Adam Moore and Blythe Gaissert. This will be a rare opportunity to see a project of high musical and visual quality as a free, public installation. By bringing together music, visual art, theatre and technology, 'The Dido Project' will carry the beauty, humanity, and emotion of Purcell's opera into the twenty-first Century and make it accessible and relevant to today's audiences.
