A2SO Announces Schedule of Upcoming Chamber Concerts

Join the Ann Arbor Symphony at the JCC of Greater Ann Arbor on October 12th at 1:30 pm for our continuing chamber recital series, featuring the A2SO String Quintet. Open to listeners of all ages, this hour-long concert will feature Ralph Vaughan Williams' Piano Quintet in C minor, and Schubert's famous Trout Quintet. The music will be performed by Ann Arbor Symphony violinist Dan Stachyra, violist Janine Bradbury, principal cellist Sarah Cleveland, principal bass Gregg Emerson Powell, and pianist Kathryn Goodson.

MAO/Seton Hall University Concert at Carnegie Hall to be Held 10/17

Excerpts from Yunus Emre (1946), an oratorio composed by Ahmed Adnan Saygun, the most important Turkish classical music composer of the twentieth century, will be performed at Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall at 8 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2015 as part of MidAtlantic Opera and Seton Hall University's co-production entitled A Prayer for Peace. This rarely-heard piece will be sung in Turkish by the 100-voice Seton Hall University choir.

GR Symphony Musicians Association to Offer Free Concert

California Symphony Presents THE WIZARD OF OZ with Live Orchestra Accompaniment Tonight

The California Symphony presents the beloved classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and performs the complete, live orchestral accompaniment as the movie is shown on a giant screen at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, tonight, August 21 at 8:30 pm. Conductor Sarah Hicks leads the orchestra in some of the best-loved movie songs and music of all time, including Harold Arlen and E.Y. “Yip” Harburg's “Over the Rainbow,” “We're Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead,” “The Merry Old Land of Oz,” and many more, as well as the underscore by composer Herbert Stothart. Judy Garland and the other actors' original vocal performances are preserved and enhanced, so they can be fully heard and enjoyed as the orchestra plays. The film's restored images are accompanied by the orchestra playing entirely new transcriptions of Harold Arlen's brilliant lost scores. The production is by Emmy Award-winning producer John Goberman (Live from Lincoln Center). Tickets for The Wizard of Oz are $25 to $75 for adults and $10 for students 18 years old and younger, and are on sale now at www.californiasymphony.org/oz.

California Symphony and Music Director Donato Cabrera to Open Season with 'Passport to the World', 9/20

The California Symphony and Music Director Donato Cabrera open their 2015-16 seasonSunday, September 20 at 4 pm at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek with “Passport to the World,” a musical tour of work by composers including Dvo?ák, Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg, Debussy, Elgar, Falla, Vaughan Williams, Glière, and Sibelius' Karelia Suite andFinlandia, on the anniversary of the great Finnish composer's death.  Following the concert, the orchestra and Cabrera welcome the audience to mingle with the artists at a special Opening Night Party, a benefit reception (Opening Night Party tickets sold separately).

Presenting Apotheosis Opera, a new addition to New York's startup opera scene. Apotheosis Opera brings fresh energy to the opera world by mounting fully-staged, English language summer productions of large-scale works. Co-founded by Matthew Jaroszewicz – who studies with David Hayes in the Master of Music program in Orchestral Conducting at Mannes College of Music – Apotheosis marks its bold debut at New York's Theater of El Museo del Barrio on July 31, with a second performance on Aug. 2, with “Tannhäuser,” in English.
