The Theatre League's Summer Theatre Fest has become an integral part of South Florida's cultural landscape, and this year, South Florida audiences will once again have the opportunity to see theatre for free, check out new plays in development by South Florida playwrights, and tell the world what the arts - and theatre - mean to them. The success of last summer's Come Under Our Umbrella program and play reading series indicated to the League that theatre patrons are ready and willing to try new theatrical experiences, and even cross county lines to do it.

A production of a beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical and a rock and roll tale of a passionate love triangle garnered the most nominations for the 39th annual Carbonell Awards, which honors excellence in theater in South Florida.

City Theatre will serve up a sizzling series of Florida-inspired short plays entitled Swamp Shorts on Monday, November 17 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at Miami Book Fair International's newest attraction The Swamp.

Girls' Club writer-in-residence Vanessa Garcia will present the series '12 Women Out of the Box & Out on a Limb' where she will interview 12 inspiring local professionals and share a glimpse into their unique world perspective. The series will be published on the Girls' Club blog, with a interview published every two weeks between January and June 2014.

Award-winning Broadway, film and TV actor Tony Plana (Ugly Betty) and actor-singer-comedian Ada Maris are among singers slated to perform the songs of writer/composer Paul Cozby Monday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Lone Star Theatre Co. presents the evening in its "Texas Music/New York Stages" series-Only Humans Like My Music-The Songs of Paul Cozby.

Inside a storage unit in downtown Miami, a Latin woman teaches 'un Americano' how to dance salsa, and, more importantly, what it means to lead. The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact have announced the addition of Golden Globe-winner and Academy and Emmy Award-nominee Brad Pitt to the cast of the West Coast premiere reading of the play '8.' The reading is an unprecedented account of the Federal District Court trial in Perry v. Schwarzenegger (now Perry v. Brown), the case filed by AFER to overturn Proposition 8, which stripped gay and lesbian Californians of the right to marry. Watch the video announcement below.
