Lateef the Truth Speaker Drops New Single 'All of This' from Upcoming Project Roots & Tings

Quannum and Solesides co-founder, and Grammy nominated MC, Lateef the Truth Speaker has joined forces with acclaimed Bay Area DJ and producer Jah Yzer and the multi-talented musician and reggae artist Winstrong, to showcase the crossroads of reggae and hip-hop on their newest project Roots & Tings. The new music draws deeply and respectfully from the history of both genres while pushing a new vibe to create powerful and provocative tracks. Roots & Tings will roll out singles monthly throughout 2019 with Quannum Records. Each release will be accompanied by original artwork, limited edition t-shirts from aspiring designers and will be available on both vinyl 45's and digitally, everywhere you can stream.

Liz Cooper & The Stampede Extend 2019 Headline Tour

Liz Cooper & The Stampede will continue their extensive headline tour through 2019 with stops at Nashville's The Basement East, Los Angeles' The Echo, Austin's Antone's and Portland's Doug Fir Lounge among others. SHAFT Selected As Opening Night Film at the 2019 American Black Film Festival

New Line Cinema's action comedy Shaft will open the 2019 American Black Film Festival (ABFF) on June 12 at the New World Center in Miami. Opening nationwide on June 14, the latest film in the popular franchise is directed by Tim Story (“Ride Along,” “Think Like a Man” franchises) and stars three generations of John Shaft: Samuel L. Jackson (“Avengers: Infinity War,” “Glass”), Jessie T. Usher (“Independence Day: Resurgence”) and Richard Roundtree (“What Men Want”); along with Regina Hall (“Girls Trip”). The ABFF runs from June 12-16.

BEHIND THE SHEET Extends Again At Ensemble Studio Theatre

Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST) (William Carden, Artistic Director, Sarah McLellan, Executive Director) and The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs) announced today a second extension for the World Premiere of Behind the Sheet, written by Charly Evon Simpson (Jump) and directed by Colette Robert (Mary's Wedding). Part of the EST/Sloan Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director; Linsay Firman, Associate Director), Behind the Sheet began previews at EST's Curt Dempster Theatre (549 W. 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019) on January 9, 2019, and opened January 17. Originally set to close on February 3, the play will now run through February 17, 2019.

Kevin Smith And Ralph Garman Bring Their Hollywood Babble-On Podcast To The UK For 4 Nights This Spring

US writer, director, actor and podcaster Kevin Smith, alongside fellow actor Ralph Garman, are heading back to the UK this May with their legendary weekly podcast Hollywood Babble-On. This four night string of dates will bring the live show back to the UK for the first time since 2014 with performances at Birmingham Symphony Hall (Sat 11th May), Manchester's O2 Apollo (Sun 12th May), Edinburgh's Usher Hall (Tues 14th May) and London's Eventim Apollo (Weds 15th May).

Brooklyn Arts Exchange has announced that following a year-long search process we will usher in a new era with new leaders on February 1, 2019. Vanessa Adato and Paloma McGregor will take over the helm and co-direct BAX as Executive and Artistic Directors respectively. Both Vanessa and Paloma share a deep respect for developing student and professional artists and building on BAX's anti-racist/anti-oppression platforms. Together they will ensure BAX's continued vision and growth.

Recording Academy Announces Industry-Wide Initiative To Expand Opportunities For Female Producers and Engineers

Today, the Recording Academy's Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion announced an unprecedented new initiative that aims to expand opportunities for female music producers and engineers. The Producer & Engineer Inclusion Initiative is the inaugural action of a larger strategy to address gender inequity in the music industry. According to a 2018 USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative study, only 2 percent of music producers and 3 percent of engineers/mixers across popular music are women. This initiative is the first step in a broader effort to improve those numbers and increase diversity and inclusion for all in the music industry.

BON BON BURLESQUE Returns To The Green Room 42 For Two Shows

THE GREEN ROOM 42 - Broadway's newest intimate concert venue - will welcome back Bon Bon Burlesque with two more scintillating shows on Friday, February 22 and Friday, March 22, both at 9:30 PM. The acclaimed troupe returns to the club after their recent standing room only New Year's Eve celebration. The Puerto Rico-born, Bronx-bred choreographer and performer Marlyn Ortiz, along with choreographer Emmanuel E. Hernandez, directs an all-female cast of New York's hottest dancers, aerialists and comediennes in a show that sets traditional and neo-burlesque elements to Latin rhythms. The evening features the beautiful ladies of Bon Bon Burlesque, in addition to comedienne Lori Sommer, also known as "Madam Honey," singer Rachel Stern, also known as "Ray Ray Star," and Jose Mitaynes as "Manuel." The show includes songs such as La Lupe's "Latin Fever," Madonna's "Justify Your Love," and Esthero's "Wikked Lil' Girrrls."

Peter Oundjian Appointed Music Director Of Colorado Music Festival; 2019 Concert Season Announced

The Colorado Music Festival today announced the appointment of conductor Peter Oundjian as its next Music Director. He is the fourth person to hold this title in the 42-year history of the festival, which is held for six weeks each year at the Colorado Chautauqua, a National Historic Landmark at the foot of the rugged Flatirons. Mr. Oundjian led the 2018 festival as Artistic Advisor, and his appointment as Music Director was announced along with the festival's 2019 season, which runs from June 27 to August 3 and explores the legacy of Beethoven.

Choreographer extraordinaire Matthew Bourne, already a force of nature in the British dance arena since 1988, turned the international dance world upside down with his ground-breaking SWAN LAKE in 1995. His unique take on CINDERELLA will land at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre beginning February 5, 2019, as part of its international tour. I had the wonderful occasion to interview Andrew Monaghan, who's dancing the dual lead role of Cinderella's heroic pilot Harry, as well as, The Prince.
