Theatre Uncut Announces Rights-free Release of Plays on Refugee Crisis

Since 2011, each year Theatre Uncut has released a set of short plays that can be downloaded and performed rights free by anyone, anywhere for a month, creating a mass participation international political theatre event. This Autumn, Theatre Uncut will release a set of works by writers from the UK, Turkey and Denmark that respond to the refugee crisis. The six short plays offer a thought provoking and often moving analysis of Europe's response to the events that have seen many thousands of people risk everything in the attempt to escape war, terrorism and poverty the Middle East and Northern Africa.

What few probably know is that he is a published playwright. His newest work, The Bloodless Jungle is now in its world premiere at Ensemble Theatre.

To honor his legacy, Museum of the Moving Image will present The Master: Philip Seymour Hoffman from September 16 through October 2, a retrospective featuring sixteen films, including his directorial debut Jack Goes Boating; Capote, for which he won an Academy Award for Leading Actor; and The Master, Magnolia, and Boogie Nights- three films he made with Paul Thomas Anderson.

Walt (Albert Dayan) and Barb (Jacqueline Wright) may seem like your typical suburban couple with a fabulous eat-in kitchen and two precocious children (Michael Sturgis as Jack and Alexandra Freeman as Jill). The scary thing is… maybe they are.

Impro Theatre Presents L.A. NOIR UNSCRIPTED

The award-winning Impro Theatre continues its 10th Anniversary Season with a one-time-only production of L.A. Noir UnScripted at the Ford Theatres.  The completely improvised performance will take place in the newly renovated 1200-seat amphitheatre in the Hollywood Hills, on October 14 at 8:30pm.

Record 75,000 Fest Ticket Sales at Edinburgh Surgeons Venues

A historic Edinburgh venue has marked its biggest ever festival season, with a 25 per cent increase in year-on-year ticket sales. With total attendances breaking 75000, thanks to it hosting seven 'theSpaceUK' theatres across three of its venues, The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) broke its previous record of 60000 ticket sales, from 2015.

BWW Review: ORPHANS is Funny, Touching and Deeply Moving

ORPHANS is a play by Lyle Kessler that premiered in 1983 in Los Angeles, winning the Drama-Logue Award. It made its Broadway debut in 2013. Earlier this Spring, Street Corner Arts selected Aaron Johnson and native Austinite Sarah Kimberly Becker to helm this debut production of their new Sidewalk Series. The new program mentors promising Austin theatre-makers in producing and fully realizing a production. If this debut effort is any indication of what the future of this program holds, Austin is in for a real theatrical treat.
