Trinity Rep Announces The Expansion Of Community Engagement Efforts

Community, along with company and education, has long been one of Trinity Rep's three core values, but recently the organization, which was founded in 1963, is expanding its commitment to that principle. Through the addition of staff and inclusion in a prestigious international pilot program, Trinity Rep's community engagement efforts strive toward fulfilling the non-profit organization's mission to reinvent the public square and provide an accessible and relevant cultural resource for the entire community.

AN ATTEMPT TO HEAL IN THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD, a new dark comedy about Wilhelm Reich, one of the most radical figures in the history of psychiatry, will have a limited engagement run from Tuesday, October 16thto Friday, October 28thas part of FringeNYC's 2018 lineup. The production is written and directed by David E. Tolchinsky.

SWEAT Offers A Compelling Portrait Of Pride And Survival At Cleveland Play House

Cleveland Play House (CPH) brings to life Lynn Nottage's complex story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rust Belt drama Sweat.  Set in Reading, PA, this relevant story offers audience members suspense through its intricate portrayal of characters battling to survive in a city crippled by economic stagnation. CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley will direct. Previews begin on October 13th, with press opening on October 19th at the Outcalt Theatre in Playhouse Square. This production is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis Announces Cast for Inaugural 'In the Works' Productions

Ben Nordstrom and Kari Ely will play opposite one another in "Into the Breeches!," the headlining production of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' new program titled, In the Works, set for Oct. 28 through Nov. 24, at the Grandel Theatre. Written by George Brant and directed by Nancy Bell, the month-long, ticketed production is the culmination of the Festival's 2018 season.

Oskar Eustis To Receive SDCF's First Gordon Davidson Award

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) has named Oskar Eustis as the first recipient of its new honor, The Gordon Davidson Award, which will be bestowed annually by SDCF to recognize a director or choreographer for lifetime achievement and distinguished service in the regional theatre nationally. The presentation of the award will take place on Saturday, September 22, at the Center Theatre Group's Annex/ Gordon Davidson Rehearsal Hall, in a by-invitation-only event.

Horton Foote Prize Awarded to Lauren Yee and Jaclyn Backhaus

Mari Marchbanks announced today the 2018 recipients of the biennial Horton Foote Prize, named in honor of the late playwright, which recognizes excellence in American theater. The 2018 Prize for Outstanding New American Play, presented to a work produced in the 2016-17 or 2017-18 seasons, is awarded to Cambodian Rock Band by Lauren Yee. The 2018 Prize for Promising New American Play, presented to a previously unproduced work, is awarded to India Pale Ale by Jaclyn Backhaus.

EULALIA: A Bedtime Story To Premiere At FringeNYC This October

Pretty Bird Theater Company is proud to present the world premiere of Eulalia: A Bedtime Story, a one-woman show adapted from the writings of the Infanta Eulalia of Spain. Written and performed by Sarah Cuneo, Eulalia: A Bedtime Story will run for five performances, October 12-22, as part of the 2018 New York International Fringe Festival.

Trinity Rep To Receive Grant From Rhode Island Foundation

Trinity Rep has received a $255,000 multi-year grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to support the implementation of its new, three-year strategic plan, which calls for doubling the number of new subscribers by 2020 and broadening its marketing and offerings to attract a more diverse audience.

Lookingglass Theatre Company Announces The Second Extension Of 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEAS

Lookingglass Theatre Company announces an extension of 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas adapted by David Kersnar and Althos Low, from the books by Jules Verne, directed by Ensemble Member David Kersnar. Due to high ticket demand, additional dates, August 30 - September 9, 2018, have been added. 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas plays at Lookingglass Theatre Company, located inside Chicago's historic Water Tower Water Works, 821 N. Michigan Ave. at Pearson. This marks the second and final extension of the production.

The Anthropologists Present Rhode Island Premiere of ARTEMISIA'S INTENT

Mosaic Theater Company's Fourth Season Begins With Empowering MARIE AND ROSETTA

"How Hope Happens," the Fourth Season at Mosaic Theater Company, will open with Marie and Rosetta, written by George Brant and directed by local artist Sandra L. Holloway. This play featuring gospel music, blues, and rock n' roll tells the story of the first rehearsal between Sister Rosetta Tharpe (recently inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame), and her young protegee Marie Knight.

Florida Studio Theatre Announces New Summer Play Reading Workshops

Following a well-received Sarasota Festival of New Plays this past spring, Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces an addition to its New Play Development program. Three new works will be staged throughout the month of August featuring some of the latest work by George Brant, Barry Harman and Keith Herrmann, and Sandy Rustin. "Good comedies with exciting stories are hard to find and we have found three well-crafted tales from various eras, points of view, and comedic angles," shared FST Associate Artist Catherine Randazzo. Talkbacks will follow each reading, giving audiences the chance to engage with each piece more deeply, while also giving playwrights valuable feedback. These readings are free and open to the public, though reservations are required.
