Six-Time Tony Award Winning Costume Designer William Ivey Long is a busy man. He's not only working on five shows simultaneously, including the movie-to-Broadway musicals of 'Beetlejuice' and 'Tootsie' but he is also celebrating the publication of two books. books. The first accompanies The Mint Museum exhibition, William Ivey Long: Costume Designs 2007-2016, which runs through June 3rd in Charlotte, North Carolina. The second, The Designs of William Ivey Long, is a monograph by Bobbi Owen, chronicling Long's career over 350 shows. Next week, Long and Owen will be stopping by The North Carolina Museum of History to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The North Carolina Arts Council. They spoke to me to discuss Owen's book, Long's North Carolina roots and designing with improbable fabrics.

As magical as the evening was, after Freddie Gershon gave an impassioned presentation to the duo, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones hit the stage and brought the house down at ages 88 and 89 respectively. They joined forces onstage to perform a song from their musical The Bone Room, described by Jones as being about 'the pleasures of dying and being embalmed in this great country of ours.' Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).

In this play, which dauntlessly cracks jokes as it eviscerates, twin sisters Anaia (Alfie Fuller) and Racine (Dame-Jasmine Hughes) undertake a murderous journey from the Dirty South to the California desert, seeking payback for a horrendous act. Is God Is treats both morality and genre as notions to be exploded, drawing on the ancient, the modern, the tragic, the Spaghetti Western, hip-hop and Afropunk in its subversion of theatrical constructs.

Last night The York Theatre Company honored the musical theatre writing team of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt in a Fantastick gala concert and award ceremony directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill presented the 2017 Urban Stages' Lifetime Achievement Award to Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning legendary set and costume designer Tony Walton.  The celebrated Broadway, TV and film star,  Melissa Errico, ("Billions", My Fair Lady, High Society, Encores' Do I Hear a Waltz?), presented the award to her mentor and close friend, Tony Waltonat the annual benefit at the Boathouse in Central Park. 

Performances begin TONIGHT for the New York premiere of Attack of the Elvis Impersonators, the zany new musical that will leave you howling for more, with book, music and lyrics by Lory Lazarus, at The Lion Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, between 9th & 10th Avenues). Urban Stages' Board of Directors and founding artistic director Frances Hill will celebrate 'The Magic of Set and Costume Design' by presenting the 2017 Urban Stages' Lifetime Achievement Award to Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award-winning legendary set and costume designer Tony Walton presented by Broadway, television and film star Melissa Errico ('Billions', My Fair Lady, High Society, Encores' Do I Hear a Waltz?) at their gala benefit at the Boathouse in Central Park at 6:30PM on May 15, 2017.

A multidisciplinary performance collective  277 Dance Project (Nicole Philippidis, Artistic Director) is proud to present their newest work Cardboard Stage, opening on Today, March 8th, 2017 at 7:30pm at the Abrons Arts Center (466 Grand Street, New York, NY 10002). The piece, conceived and choreographed by Nicole Philippidis in collaboration with the designer/filmmaker Jennifer Klein and award-winning musician Johnny Philippidis, will be on view for a limited three-night engagement.
