A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to the Ohio Theatre with performances from today, June 5-23. Two and one-half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the east entrance of the Ohio Theatre (just off State Street between the Ohio Theatre and the Sheraton) can place their names in a lottery drum. Names will be drawn 30 minutes later for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available in-person only at the Ohio Theatre with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets.

After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2007 and 2010, WICKED, Broadway's biggest blockbuster, will return to Columbus' Ohio Theatre tonight, June 5-23. Tickets for the return engagement are on sale now.

Earlier this week I posted how I voted for this season's Outer Critics Circle Awards, so now here are the picks from my ballot for the Drama Desk Awards, which will be presented Sunday night.

Tony Award-winning producer Junkyard Dog Productions (Memphis) has just announced that leading man Zachary Levi, star of TV's “Chuck,” Disney's feature film Tangled and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, will make his Broadway debut starring opposite Broadway and television ingénue Krysta Rodriguez (“Smash,” The Addams Family) in FIRST DATE, Broadway's new romantic musical comedy. With a book by Austin Winsberg (“Gossip Girl”), music and lyrics byAlan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed) and musical staging by Josh Rhodes (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella) FIRST DATE is directed by Bill Berry (Producing Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre). Featuring Sara Chase (“Arrested Development,” The Toxic Avenger), Kristoffer Cusick (Wicked, Rent), Blake Hammond (Sister Act, Billy Elliot) and Kate Loprest (“Boardwalk Empire,” Hairspray), the cast of FIRST DATE also includes Vicki Noon (Wicked, Mamma Mia!). FIRST DATE begins performances Tuesday, July 9, 2013, and opens Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Broadway's Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). Additional casting to be announced shortly.

The 58th Annual Drama Desk took place last night, May 19th at Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street), and miserable rain didn't stop the festivities. The Constitution is the only document you get more knowledge of it, the drunker you get.  Why?  It was written during a four month drunken binge. The bills from those days show thousands of dollars in wine, port, beer.  They were all drinking.
