New York City becomes host to the Empire Dance Championships, an inaugural world-class dancesport competition and showcase of ballroom and latin dancers from North America and around the world, to be held at the Conrad New York hotel in lower Manhattan, with a formal Grand Opening Gala event on Wednesday evening, Aug. 7 and the dance competitions beginning Thursday morning, Aug. 8 through Saturday evening, Aug. 10.

The award winning Foothill Music Theatre swings for the fences this summer with the Tony Award-winning musical DAMN YANKEES. With book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, DAMN YANKEES, the musical story of a baseball fanatic who makes a deal with the devil to get his team a chance at the pennant, features a memorable Richard Adler and Jerry Ross score including 'Whatever Lola Want, Lola Gets,' and (You've Gotta Have) 'Heart.' This production will be helmed by Tom Gough with music direction by Catherine Snider, and choreography by Katie O'Bryon and plays today, July 26 - August 18 in the Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Rd., Los Altos Hills

Milwaukee Repertory Theater announced casting today for I Left My Heart: A Salute to the Music of Tony Bennett, the first production to open The Rep's 60th Anniversary 2013/14 Season, Venus in Fur, coming to the Stiemke Studio in late September, Forever Plaid, opening at the end of October in the Stackner Cabaret and Noises Off, the second production in the Quadracci Powerhouse this season.

Today, this veteran of major jazz festivals from Montreux, Switzerland, to the Newport Jazz Festival in New York City, is also carving out his own niche as founder and leader of The Dave Stahl Big Band. The master musician's signature assembly of seasoned musicians will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Sharadin Bigler Theatre, home of the Ephrata Performing Arts Center. 'Come hear the music play...' this summer at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University (50 E Congress Pkwy) and the Katten/Landau studio (425 S Wabash, 4th Floor) when both spaces are transformed into an intimate cabaret hosting some of the city's most talented performers. The series kicks off in the Katten/Landau Studio tonight, July 20 with 'Life is a Cabaret - The Music and Words of Kander and Ebb' featuring Scott Gryder, Nick Sula and Phil Martin and continues today, August 10 with 'The Greg Spero Trio,' as Spero treats the audience to both original songs from his new album as well as everyone's favorite jazz tunes. The series culminates today, August 24 when the audience sits on the Auditorium's world-famous landmark stage to hear 'Chicago Music Legends' featuring Frank D'Rone, Judy Roberts and Denise Tomasello.
