THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS (NHSMTA)/JIMMY AWARDS has announced that 62 high school students from across America will compete for the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress at the eighth annual awards ceremony. The presentation will take place on Monday, June 27th at 7:30PM at the Minskoff Theatre, 200 West 45th Street in Manhattan. Tickets can be purchased by visiting NHSMTA.COM or TICKETMASTER.COM and range from $39 to $89. Premium seats are $250.

An all-star roster of theater artists gathered today to record the new benefit single 'What the World Needs Now is Love' for victims of the Orlando Shooting. In this episode: Tripp Hanson is currently in Act 2 of his career, and he sees the possibility of there being four. Tripp started as a street performer, landed on Broadway, toured with Tommy Tune, and now is an acupuncturist with his own practice. Today in 1982, a return engagement of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 63 performances. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a musical with a book by Texas author Larry L. King and Peter Masterson and music and lyrics by Carol Hall. It is based on a story by King that was inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. The original Broadway production was directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune and choreographed by Tune and Thommie Walsh. It opened on June 19, 1978 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for 1,584 performances.
