Broadway Experts Set for TexARTS Summer Intensive

TexARTS will offer a series of Masters' Workshops led by Broadway veterans during its annual Summer Musical Theatre Intensive, this year's production will be Stephen Sondheim's A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. Joining in the line-up is Broadway casting director, Jay Binder, premiere acting coach, Matthew Corozine and former Rockette Kelly King.

The Masters' Workshops are a series of special add-on classes for students who are enrolled in the Summer Musical Theatre Intensive. Acceptance into the workshop will be based on the student's initial audition on May 17 and 18. Those admitted will have the opportunity to sharpen their existing auditioning, acting, and dance skills.

Leading off the series for auditioning is Jay Binder of Binder Casting, one of the top casting directors in New York. He has cast over 70 Broadway shows and cast for Warner Brothers Television. He was also an artistic consultant for Disney World and National Artists Management Company.

Directing the acting series is Matthew Corozine, acting teacher, coach, director, producer, and owner of the Matthew Corozine Studio Theatre in New York City. He has taught acting at American Academy of Dramatic Arts and acting and improvisation at SUNY Purchase. His students have appeared in the Broadway productions of; ALADDIN, THE BOOK OF MORMON, PIPPIN, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, MAMMA MIA, and many more.

Conducting the dance series is Kelly King, a Radio City Rockette for 12 years. She has also performed extensively for television, stage, and film. King has toured with FOSSE and ANYTHING GOES and performed in GREGORY HINES IN CONCERT with Gregory Hines and Busker Alley with Tommy Tune. She has taught at the University of South Florida, Broadway Dance Center in NYC, GENDARC Dance, the Patel Conservatory, and at Pinellas County Center for the Arts.

Registration is now opened for the Summer Musical Theatre Intensive and the Masters' Workshop Series for all levels of youths ages 7 - 18. The Summer Intensive allows students to rehearse while receiving exceptional instruction in acting, dance and vocal technique. The intensive culminates in public performances on June 25 - 26 at St. Michael's Academy Gloria Delgado Performing Arts Theatre. Placement auditions for A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM will be held on May 17 and 18 and everyone gets a role! These auditions will also be used to determine acceptance into the Masters' Workshop.

TexARTS will also continue to offer the popular series of youth summer performing and visual arts camps and a variety of programming for children and teens of all levels. This year's lineup includes the youth acting intensive AND THEN THERE WAS ONE (June 27 - July 8), RAP-PUNZEL (July 18 - 29), and a dance technique intensive (August 8 - 12).

Students may also enroll in full-day or half-day camps that focus on such popular titles as FROZEN, WICKED, ALADDIN, MARY POPPINS, and many more These week long camps are under the guidance of experienced professionals and will focus on basic vocal technique, acting skills, dance and musical theatre. For students ages 2 - 5, TexARTS will host mini camps. Each camp session has a theme with crafts and an informal presentation for family and friends.

TexARTS summer session begins June 6 and run through August 19. Camps will be held at TexARTS in the Erin Doherty Studios (2300 Lohmans Spur, Suite #160, Lakeway, TX).
