Chicago's Jeff Awards Equity Nominations for 2016-2017 Productions Announced

Seven world premiere plays seen first by Chicago audiences were among those receiving nominations by The Jeff Awards. 158 nominations in 33 categories honor Chicago Equity theatrical productions that opened between August 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017.

On the heels of critically-acclaimed sold-out runs at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and The Miracle Center in Logan Square, Teatro Vista's La Havana Madrid by Sandra Delgado arrives at Goodman Theatre for an extended summer run, July 21 - August 20. Chicago's fabled 1960s nightclub, La Havana Madrid, comes bursting back to life in 'an immersive, wholly enjoyable experience' (Chicago Reader) complete with live music and 'enough dancing and bonhomie to tempt you away from your little table down front' (Chicago Tribune). Directed by Teatro Vista ensemble member Cheryl Lynn Bruce, the production was inspired by true stories of Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian immigrants who found refuge in the nightclub. Delgado leads the eight-member cast (a full list appears below) as a mystical woman who conjures stories and vibrant songs performed live onstage each night by Colombian-American musician Roberto 'Carpacho' Marin and his band of 30 years, Carpacho y Su Super Combo.

Directed by Random Acts Artistic Director Bryan Renaud, the reading will feature artistic associates Tommy Rivera-Vega, currently appearing in LA HAVANA MADRID from Teatro Vista and Goodman Theatre; Ben F. Locke, now leading Metropolis Arts Centers' production of PETER AND THE STARCATCHER; and Shannon Webber, who appeared as Carol in Random Acts' smash-hit LADIES NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Today, The Hawk Chicago announced nominations for the inaugural Chicago Theatre Awards, a contest in which all winners are chosen entirely by audience vote. The first round, which invited write-in submissions, ended June 23rd. The official nominees were decided by almost 1,600 voters.

Due to popular demand, Random Acts and Greenhouse Theater Center are pleased to announce a second extension of the hit world premiere STRANGEST THINGS! THE MUSICAL by Bryan Renaud and Emily Schmidt and directed and choreographed by Tommy Rivera-Vega. The runaway hit based on the popular Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things, currently scheduled through May 13, 2017, will add an additional six-week block of performances from June 3 - July 8, 2017 at Greenhouse Theater Center (Downstairs Mainstage), 2257 N.
