The program notes for Scandalous People: a Sizzling Jazzical, advise us that Myla Churchill (book & lyrics) and Benny Russell's (music) new musical concerns Dewey Demarkov, a fictional black entertainer in pre-Depression Harlem who earned his song and dance chops playing demeaning stereotypes (sometimes in blackface) in white-run vaudeville houses and minstrel shows. As uptown Manhattan developed into a cultural center, Dewey formed an act with his future wife, Desiree Malinda, that evoked the kind of self-respecting class and sophistication the entertainers of the Harlem Renaissance became famous for. His innovative style made his speakeasy shows at The Do Drop Inn a top attraction.

The Cannery Casiono group here in Las Vegas knows its audience. Hence, entertainment at its three casinos ? The Cannery, the Eastside Cannery and the Rampart ? caters to that audience. They are mostly locals and, according to Entertainment Director Kathy Spehar, 'they are mostly Baby Boomers' who, apparently enjoy the likes of Felix Cavaliere's Rascals (note: they are no longer billed as the 'Young' Rascals), Tommy James & The Shondells, Little Anthony and the Imperials and this afternoon at 4 pm, Petula Clark at the Rampart Casino.

Friends of the Davis, a non-profit, volunteer group created to support the Davis Performing Arts Programs for Youth at the Columbus Performing Arts Center (CPAC), will present a one night only benefit concert on Friday, June 5, showcasing a trio of local talent-jazz pianist Bradley Sowash, Throat Culture - A Mouth Band, and the D3 Musical Theatre Ensemble.
