Six-CD Box Set of Hy Zaret and Lou Singer's BALLADS FOR THE AGE OF SCIENCE Set for 10/15 Release

For the first time in over fifty years, Harbinger Records will release 'Ballads for the Age of Science,' the most successful educational recordings of all time, as a six-CD box set. Featuring more than four dozen original songs written by Hy Zaret, co-author of the iconic popular song 'Unchained Melody,' and Lou Singer between 1959 and 1961, the albums introduced scientific concepts and terms using catchy, easy-to-learn lyrics and music to grade school students across America in the early 1960s.

UC's College of Conservatory of Music Hosts International Jazz Trumpet Competition Today

The world's best up-and-coming jazz trumpet players will converge at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) this month to compete for $15,000 in total prizes during the International Trumpet Guild's 2013 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition, sponsored by the Herb Alpert Foundation.

Tommy Dorsey Orchestra to Play Drury Lane Theatre, 10/28-29

Iconic Big Band ensemble THE TOMMY DORSEY ORCHESTRA will present two concerts at Drury Lane Theatre, 100 Drury Lane, on Monday, October 28 at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 29 at 1:30 p.m. Celebrating the Swing music era, THE TOMMY DORSEY ORCHESTRA is recognized as one of the best all-around dance bands in Big Band history.

Howard Hawks, the quintessential Hollywood director known for his mastery of many genres, will be the subject of a complete retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from today, September 7 through November 10, 2013. The Museum will present 39 features. All of the films will be shown in 35mm-many in stunning restorations-except for Red Line 7000, which will be shown in 16mm.

Ken Peplowski to Join Capital Jazz Orchestra for Benny Goodman Tribute, 9/22

On Sunday, January 16, 1938 the world of Jazz and Swing changed forever. On Sunday, September 22, 2013 The Capital Jazz Orchestra and New York City clarinet virtuoso Ken Peplowski will salute the 75rd anniversary of this momentous concert…recreating that very show, to the minute! Benny Goodman's 1938 show at Carnegie Hall in New York has been billed as the world's most famous jazz concert, a ground-breaking event that brought jazz into the mainstream. The concert featured such swing icons as Lionel Hampton, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Count Basie, Lester Young and Johnny Hodges and included such timeless jazz classics as "Don't Be That Way," "Avalon," and the iconic swing performance of "Sing, Sing, Sing."

Deer Valley Music Festival to Kick Off with 1812 Overture, 6/29

The Deer Valley Music Festival, summer home of Utah Symphony | Utah Opera, is celebrating ten years of music in the mountains with a festival lineup that highlights the diversity of the orchestra and its audience. The 2013 Festival features seventeen performances from June 29 to August 10 at venues in Park City, Utah, including ten performances at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheatre which was recently highlighted by CNN as one of eight 'amazing' outdoor concert venues. The first three Festival events will take place on June 29, July 5 and July 6.

Martha Lorin and Paul Smith to Reunite at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal, Today

Distinguished vocalist, recording artist and interpreter of the Great American Songbook Martha Lorin will appear at Sterling's Upstairs at The Federal Today May 26 accompanied by legendary musical director Paul Smith for an evening of lush standards, it was announced today by producer Michael Sterling and co-producer Ralph Lampkin, Jr. of the Lampkin Music Group in Chicago.
