Batman and The Transfer Group have announced that CARRIE THE MUSICAL will return to Los Angeles at the historic Los Angeles Theatre, the first theatrical musical at that venue. It was the summer of 1988 when I first heard the melodious JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR score. After church, Mamma and Nanny T would make rounds to the local garage sales and the original cast album was one of their finds. I had a vintage stereo with a record player and this was my solace after church or rehearsal. When Bayou City Theatrics announced this show my excitement ranneth over and I was ready to head to the theatre to see what the creatives had for the American Stage.
The rock musical Hair has been produced many times over the years in Kansas City, but never has it been presented the way the Kansas City Repertory Theatre brought it to the Spencer Theatre on opening night March 27. Artistic Director Eric Rosen directs Hair: Retrospective, which runs through April 12 at the theater on the University of Missouri at Kansas City campus. The retrospective may actually be more enjoyable than the musical itself, (not just my opinion, heard from audience members also).
Performances begin tonight, Friday, March 20 and run through Sunday, April 12. Press night is scheduled for Opening Night Friday, March 27. Appropriate for ages 17 +. As a concert production, there will be no live nudity, though documentary photographs of the original production will be projected.

I first got involved with a small part in a community theatre in Medford, Oregon as a child and had the usual school plays and debate teams. I was fairly shy as a kid and my voice would rise when I was nervous, so I took a college course in the theatre department at the University of Washington to 'modulate' my voice and learn 'vocal placement;' one thing led to another till I was firmly ensconced as a drama major and began getting cast in great character roles.

Ted Neeley, star of both the 1973 classic film and various Broadway touring versions of Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the road, this time without the robe. Fronting his five piece Little Big Band, Ted returns to his Texas roots and his first love as a 'singer in a rock and roll band'. Ted will debut new music with the group, which includes Kim Norton, a stellar guitarist who has provided Ted with an underscore of searing riffs on more than 1000 performances of Superstar, and bassist James Webb, son of famed songwriter Jimmy Webb, and co-founder of the popular Webb Brothers Band.
