BWW Reviews: Colony Offers Rollicking Dames at Sea

Few musicals capture the flavor of the early Cole Porter revues and Busby Berkeley musical films quite as well as Dames at Sea. Its constant silliness, instantaneous breaks - for no apparent reason - into song and dance... and parody of just about every musical show, especially 42nd Street, make it delicious, frothy and lots of fun. Now onstage at the Colony Theatre, under the smooth direction of Todd Nielsen, Dames at Sea starts out a tad slow, but builds momentum and gives its audience what they came for: a rollicking good time.

BWW Reviews: Fantastic Robber Bridegroom at ICT, Long Beach

The musical The Robber Bridegroom was a phenomenal success on Broadway in the mid seventies and catapulted Barry Bostwick and Patti LuPone to Broadway stardom. It was also one of the first hits for writer Alfred Uhry who would later go on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Driving Miss Daisy. Now onstage at ICT, Long Beach, the revival of Bridegroom is fast becoming a smash hit with audiences. But, you'd better hurry; it closes November 6!

1776 Closes at Glendale Center Theatre, 8/13

Under the helm of sought after Los Angeles theatre Director Todd Nielsen, the Tony Award-winning Musical 1776 will close at the Glendale Centre Theatre August 13, 2011.

BWW Reviews: Fine 1776 @ Glendale Centre Theatre

Since its premiere on Broadway in 1969, the musical 1776 has become as popular as Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music; it seems that people cannot get enough of the show especially around the Fourth of July. After all, why read a history book when you can be entertained by a humorous retelling of our nation's conception? Giving in to the family fix for 1776, Glendale Centre Theatre is currently mounting a dutiful production with excellent direction and cast through August 13.
