Musical Theatre Guild Presents A NEW BRAIN, 4/16

By:

The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will continue their 16th season with William Finn and James Lapine's Off-Broadway musical A NEW BRAIN. The one night only performance will take place on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 7:30 PM at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale.

A semi-autobiographical account of how composer/lyricist Finn made the most out of life in the face of a harrowing major illness, the musical was first produced at Lincoln Center in 1998. A NEW BRAIN features contemporary score and ultimate depiction of the healing power of art.

Featured in the all MTG member cast are Eydie Alyson (Rhoda), Stuart Ambrose (Roger), Eileen Barnett (Mimi Schwinn), Jill Marie Burke (Lisa), Melissa Fahn (Waitress/Nancy D.), Joshua Finkel (Mr. Bungee), David Holmes (Dr. Jafar Berensteiner), Eric McEwen (The Minister), Kevin McMahon (Gordon Schwinn) and Michael A. Shepperd (Richard). The casting of McMahon (currently touring in WICKED) as Gordon is of particular note, as the actor, much like the role he will portray, underwent successful brain surgery in 2007. A NEW BRAIN will be directed and choreographed by Todd Nielsen with musical direction by Gerald Sternbach. Jeffrey Christopher Todd serves as MTG production coordinator.

The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Blvd in Glendale. Tickets are available at the Alex Theatre box office, online at www.alextheatre.org or by calling 818-243-ALEX.

The Musical Theatre Guild's 2011-2012 season concludes with SHENANDOAH (June 11 and 17, 2012).

Call 818-848-6844 or visit www.musicaltheatreguild.com for complete schedule and venue information.
