Seattle Repertory Theatre presents the world premiere of the compelling new drama and recipient of an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award Roz and Ray, the story of Ray, a single dad who believes he's found a miracle in Dr. Roz, until tragedy strikes.

Holly Arsenault - playwright, arts administrator and Gregory Award winner - has been hired as the new Director of External Relations for the School of Drama at the University of Washington. Ms. Arsenault is leaving her position as the Executive Director of TeenTix where she worked for over ten years, helping to shape its mission and giving thousands of Puget Sound teenagers the opportunity to attend arts and cultural events in the Seattle area.

The University of Washington School of Drama, under the leadership of Executive Director Todd London, has announced its 2016-2017 Season. As with their 75th anniversary season, the School of Drama will continue to build artistic partnerships with both local and national artists in an effort to provide more diverse learning opportunities for their students and create a laboratory environment within the School. Guest artists involved this season include: Ali el-Gassier, Marya Sea Kaminski, Jane Jones, Ellen McLaughlin, Qui Nguyen, Ken Rus Schmoll, Daniel Talbott, and Anne Washburn.

Teatro Vista announces the Chicago premiere of In the Time of the Butterflies, written by Lifetime Achievement Obie Award Winner Caridad Svich, based on Julia Álvarez's acclaimed novel, and directed by Ricardo Gutierrez, playing in the Richard Christiansen Theater at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln, April 16 - May 22. Opening night is Friday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. Preview performances run from Thursday, April 16 through Thursday, April 21. Regular performances are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for previews, $25 for Thursdays and Fridays, and $30 for Saturday and Sunday performances. A three and a half year, $750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has been awarded to the University of Washington to pilot a new Creative Fellowships Initiative that will explore the nature of creative research at a top public research university. The interdisciplinary Initiative will advance the field of performing arts by supporting artists in the development of new work and by integrating the performing arts disciplines into the broader curriculum. This is the first time the University's performing arts units, the Schools of Music and Drama, DXArts, UW World Series and the Dance Program have joined together for an experiment of this scale.

Tim Bond-noted director and educator and current Producing Artistic Director at Syracuse Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama-has been hired as a full professor at the University of Washington School of Drama. An alumnus of the School of Drama MFA Directing program, Mr. Bond will teach in both the undergraduate curriculum and the MFA directing and acting programs.

The Lilly Awards Foundation, celebrating and honoring women of distinction in American theater, held their 6th Annual Lilly Awards Ceremony last night, June 1, 2015 at Playwrights Horizons (416 West 42nd Street) that was hosted by twice nominated 2015 Tony Award nominee Lisa Kron (Fun Home).

The 2015 winners of the Lilly Awards, celebrating and honoring women of distinction in American theater, were recently announced by The Lilly Awards Foundation. The winners will be celebrated at the 6th Annual Lilly Awards Ceremony tonight, June 1, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Playwrights Horizons (416 West 42nd Street) and hosted by double 2015 Tony Award nominee Lisa Kron (Fun Home).

New Dramatists,Tony® Honor recipient and the nation's premiere playwright development workshop, announces that Emily Morse will assume the position of Artistic Director beginning in July. Morse, on staff at New Dramatists since 2001 and currently serving as Director of Artistic Development, assumes the position from Todd London who leaves New Dramatists after eighteen years to become the Executive Director/Professor of Drama at the University of Washington where he'll oversee undergraduate, MFA and PhD programs, training and productions. London's appointment is awaiting final approval by the university Board of Regent's.

Todd London - writer, scholar, and current artistic director of New Dramatists in New York - has been named the new Executive Director of the School of Drama at the University of Washington. Dr. London will also serve as a professor in the School. He will be relocating to Seattle from New York this summer and will officially assume his role as Executive Director on August 1, 2014. This appointment is pending formal approval by the University of Washington Board of Regents.

Working Theater, in its 29th season off-Broadway, will continue its current exploration of the face of poverty in America, with James McManus' Princess Grace Award-winning play, CHERRY SMOKE. The play is a brutal love story that details the irrational hope of four destitute young people, all stretching to grasp the American dream. Directed by Tamilla Woodard, the production will run tonight, April 22nd through May 18th at Urban Stages, 259 West 30th Street in Manhattan. The official opening is on Thursday, May 1st.

The Playwrights Realm has announced the expansion of programming to include two productions as part of the 2014-2015 season. The first production will be the world premiere of MY MAÑANA COMES by next season's Page One Playwright Elizabeth Irwin, running August 26 - September 20, 2014 at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater. The inaugural Alumni Production will be the world premiere of CITY OF by Alumni Page One Playwright Anton Dudley, running January - February TBD, 2015 at a venue TBA. In an effort to further support and advance the careers of its playwrights, the Alumni Production will allow The Realm to produce new work by its growing contingency of Alumni Playwrights. The two productions were announced at the theatre company's seventh annual 'Writers Block Party' on Monday, April 7, 2014.
