The fascinating characters of New York City-gamblers, gangsters, showgirls and the like- will step onstage at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts when "Guys and Dolls" swaggers into town on June 16.

There are some shows that are done to death, nevertheless we love them anyway. This is probably why they are done to death. Frank Loesser's "Guys and Dolls" is definitely one of those shows. I've seen it several times (including one production I consider the quintessential one, but we'll get to that in a minute) but I always find something to love. Well, the 5th Avenue has dusted off the old girl and while it was one of the most technically proficient productions I've seen, it seemed to lack some of the heart and sass it demands.

Gamblers and gangsters, shysters and low-lifes alike will take over The 5th Avenue Theatre when Guys and Dolls swaggers on to the stage in a swinging reimagining of Frank Loesser's iconic hit (book by Joe Swerling and Abe Burrows.) Featuring beloved hit songs including 'Luck Be a Lady,' 'If I were a Bell,' 'Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat,' and the titular song 'Guys and Dolls,' this celebrated ode to American gangsters and the dolls that love them was hailed by the New York Times as 'the show that defines Broadway dazzle,' with Newsweek declaring 'This is why Broadway was born!' Featuring a stellar cast including 30 Rock regular Todd Buonopane and Seattle stage stars Clayton Corzatte, Daniel Levine, Brandon O'Neill, and Billie Wildrick, alongside rising starlet Katherine Strohmaier, with Peter Rothstein at the helm and choreography by Noah Racey, Guys and Dolls plays May 12-June 15 (press opening May 19 ) at The 5th Avenue Theatre (1308 5th Avenue, Seattle.) 'At This Performance,' the ongoing salute to Broadway and Off-Broadway standbys and understudies is set to continue March 20-21.

This past Wednesday and Thursday, host Jim Caruso and musical director Billy Stritch oversaw another Hollywood edition of Cast Party, the wildly successful open mic night, which tours the country celebrating local talent. The event, made up of impromptu musical performances, has been running every Monday at Birdland in New York City for the past eight years.
