BWW Review: Rarely Seen in the US CALENDAR GIRLS Sheds a Delicious Naughtiness at Group rep

The 2003 film Calendar Girls was produced in the US with a British cast starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. It is a delightful comedy and a sweet ode to women, who, dissatisfied with many lifestyle choices, try quite earnestly to raise the bar. In 2008 it was made into a play and has been a best seller in the UK, probably because it takes place in and pays homage to Yorkshire. Now under Larry Eisenberg's keen and caring direction, Calendar Girls, rarely produced in the US, has a sturdy production with a sterling cast at Group rep in NoHo through October 9.

Wetumpka Depot Players' CALENDAR GIRLS Opens 7/14

Sometimes the only thing to do in the blistering heat and humidity of central Alabama it to wear less clothes. The Wetumpka Depot Players are keeping cool for their production of Tim Firth's comedy, Calendar Girls.  Opening July 14 and running through July 30, the play is one of the most widely produced plays in the UK and is now making the rounds here in the US after the great success of the film of the same title.

This summer, City Lights' intimate theater will be bursting with the powerful music and perpetually youthful rage of Green Day's American Idiot. Based on the hit album, this punk-rock musical promises to be even more electric than usual-up close in a 100-seat theater.

BWW Review: Pantages Theatre Welcomes Triumphant Return of KINKY BOOTS Tour to Hollywood

If it was possible to like... or rather, LOOOVE... the Broadway musical KINKY BOOTS even more so than one already does, the lovable, fresh-faced cast of the musical's current first national tour is certainly making a really good case for it. An all-around spectacular stage show in every sense of the word, the 2013 six-time Tony Award-winning Best Musical's current North American traveling company---now back in Los Angeles for an all-too brief two-week run at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood through April 24---very much lives up to its rousing, crowd-pleasing reputation thrice over. Still haven't seen this incredibly entertaining, surprisingly heartwarming show on tour yet? What are you waiting for?

BWW Reviews: CALENDAR GIRLS Exposes Character

There's something deliciously undercover at the Omaha Community Playhouse. CALENDAR GIRLS, directed by Susan Baer Collins, opens tonight for a four-week run. The strong ensemble cast reveals distinct, fully rounded personalities.  I had so much fun watching their characters unfold, particularly the six friends who belong to the British social club for women, the WI (Women's Institute).
