???????Calendar Girls, a 2009 play based on a hit 2003 film, is Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi's true-to-life comedy about six middle-aged women from a village in Yorkshire, England who raise money by posing nude for a calendar, in the process becoming a worldwide sensation. The 2003 motion picture starred Helen Mirren and became a major success, grossing nearly $100 million and garnering Golden Globe nominations for Mirren and co-star Julie Walters. The play is being presented at the Santa Paula Theater Center through December 18.

BWW Review: Amelia Community Theatre Vacations ON GOLDEN POND
by Michael Lipp
- Oct 3, 2016
Ernest Thompson's 1979 ON GOLDEN POND is an ode to the durability of love and family in the face of aging, loss, and miscommunication. Amelia Community Theatre has just opened a touching production of the Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning play which became a critically-acclaimed film two years later starring Katharine Hepburn and the father-and-daughter team of Henry and Jane Fonda. Helmed by veteran director Toni D'Amico, ACT's trip to Golden Pond is a lovely, welcoming experience that effectively balances both sides of this bittersweet comedy-drama.

BWW Review: Rarely Seen in the US CALENDAR GIRLS Sheds a Delicious Naughtiness at Group rep
by Don Grigware
- Aug 29, 2016
The 2003 film Calendar Girls was produced in the US with a British cast starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. It is a delightful comedy and a sweet ode to women, who, dissatisfied with many lifestyle choices, try quite earnestly to raise the bar. In 2008 it was made into a play and has been a best seller in the UK, probably because it takes place in and pays homage to Yorkshire. Now under Larry Eisenberg's keen and caring direction, Calendar Girls, rarely produced in the US, has a sturdy production with a sterling cast at Group rep in NoHo through October 9.
