MCC Theater to Present Benefit Performances of THE HEART OF THE MATTER, 6/13-16; Krysten Ritter Headlines

MCC Theater today announced they will present Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's 'shorts' series, The Heart of the Matter, for four special benefit performances that will take place June 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). The staged reading will feature actor Krysten Ritter (ABC's "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23," AMC's "Breaking Bad"), with additional cast members to be announced shortly. Carolyn Cantor, who recently directed Regrets at Manhattan Theatre Club and MCC's production of LaBute's In a Dark Dark House, will direct. Proceeds will support MCC Theater's Playwrights' Coalition program, free PlayLab reading series and literary development activities.

Theatre East presents the next installment in its NEIGHBORHOOD READING SERIES upstairs at O'Lunney's, 145 West 45th Street (bet. Broadway & 6th Avenue), on Tuesday, May 29th: 6:00 pm is a Mixer with the reading at 7:00 pm. Dominic Chianese of THE SOPRANOS and BOARDWALK EMPIRE stars in the Nobel Prize-winning playwright Luigi Pirandello's RIGHT YOU ARE (if you think you are). Through small town gossip, this parable explores the relativity of truth, the vanity and necessity of illusion and the instability of the human personality. The reading will be directed by Artistic Director Judson Jones.

MCC THEATER today announced The Carrie Anticipation Contest: Why Are You Excited About Carrie?. Theater fans all around the world are encouraged to submit a video explaining why they are excited for what is shaping up to be the most anticipated theatrical event of the season: MCC's upcoming production of Carrie. MCC THEATER today announced that John Behlmann (The 39 Steps), MCC Theater founding member Patrick Breen (The Normal Heart), Gideon Glick (Spring Awakening), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Catch Me If You Can), Tony Award-winner Alice Ripley (Next To Normal), and Daniel Stewart Sherman (Desire Under the Elms) will star in the world premiere production of Wild Animals You Should Know, by Thomas Higgins. The production will be directed by Trip Cullman (A Small Fire, Bachelorette). Tickets go on-sale October 3, 2011. Performances begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on November 3, 2011 and continue through December 11, 2011. An official opening is set for Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.
