American Blues Theater to Present Chicago Premiere of GROUNDED, 6/6-7/13

Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, are proud to announce the Chicago premiere of Grounded, by George Brant and directed by Lisa Portes, June 6 - July 13 at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 N. Lincoln Ave. The running time is approximately 80 minutes. Pink Previews, where tickets sales benefit the Lynn Sage Foundation for breast cancer research, are Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 8 at 2:30 p.m. Opening Night is Thursday, June 12 at 7 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $19 - $49 and are available at 773.404.7336 or americanbluestheater.com.

Theatre Horizon is gearing up for an exciting 9th Season and the second in their new home. Their season begins with Doug Wright's Pulitzer Prize winner I Am My Own Wife, continues with Annie Baker's OBIE winning Circle Mirror Transformation, and closes with Tony winner Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps. All shows take place at the company's new home at 401 DeKalb St. Individual tickets cost $20-$31. Subscriptions start at $55 and go as high as $90 per person. PlayPenn Hosts 9th Annual New Play Development Conference, Now thru 7/28

PlayPenn, Philadelphia's professional new play development organization, will hold its ninth annual New Play Development Conference from today, July 12-28 at the Adrienne Theater (2030 Sansom Street) in Philadelphia. The Conference will feature two-and-a-half weeks of intensive work on six works-in-progress by Gabriel Jason Dean (Terminus); Lisa Dillman (No Such Thing); Deborah Zoe Laufer (Informed Consent); Peter Gil-Sheridan (Cockfight); James Ijames (A Thousand Kinds of Silence); and Joe Waechter (Profiles).

PlayPenn is pleased to announce two additional events for its 2013 Conference, readings of works-in-progress by playwrights Thomas Gibbons (Uncanny Valley) and Willy Holtzman (The First Mrs. Rochester) on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23, respectively. These works are presented in addition to the public readings of the six plays receiving the full resources of PlayPenn's 2013 Conference, which are scheduled for July 25-28. Both playwrights will benefit from hearing their plays read before a live audience, which will inform the future evolution of their scripts.

National New Play Network Announces 15th Anniversary Celebration: PERMANENT COLLECTION

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces the 15th Anniversary Celebration performances of Permanent Collection by Thomas Gibbons. A staged reading of the original Rolling World Premiere will be presented on Monday, April 22 at Core Member Theaters across the country, including Actor's Theatre of Charlotte (Charlotte, NC), InterAct Theatre Company (Philadelphia, PA), Kitchen Dog Theater (Dallas, TX), Riverside Theatre (Iowa City, IA), Salt Lake Acting Company (Salt Lake City, UT), and Unicorn Theatre (Kansas City, MO). Gibbons' award-winning play has gone on to more than 30 productions across the country and around the world since it was first produced in 2003.

Southern Rep continues its 'New Plays New Orleans' mission with PINTS & PLAYS, a reading series presented monthly at the Rusty Nail that features selected works read by local actors. This month's reading is PERMANENT COLLECTION by Tom Gibbons. PINTS & PLAYS takes place this month on April 22nd, at 7:30pm. Our partner on this new project is The Rusty Nail, 1100 Constance Street, New Orleans, LA. Tucked away on the edge of the Warehouse District, The Rusty Nail can be a bit hard to find.

Inspired by events surrounding Philadelphia's Barnes Foundation, Thomas Gibbons' incisive drama Permanent Collection. The show continues InterAct Theatre Company's 25th Anniversary season as it grapples with conflicting perspectives on race and art. Directed by Producing Artistic Director Seth Rozin, InterAct is thrilled to present this revival of their most successful production in the theatre's history. Due to popular demand, the production has already been extended to May 5.

The Theatre School at DePaul University will present BARRIO GRRRL! A MUSICAL (book and lyrics by Quiara Alegria Hudes, music by Bill Sherman, musical direction by Mark Elliott, and directed by Lisa Portes) as the final production of the 2011-2012 Chicago Playworks for Families and Young Audiences Series. BARRIO GRRRL! A MUSICAL opens Tuesday, March 27, and runs through Saturday, May 12, 2012, at DePaul's historic Merle Reskin Theatre. Performances are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 AM and Saturdays at 2 PM. There will be no performance on March 31, April 3, April 5, April 7, April 28, May 1, May 3, or May 5.
