WAR LESBIAN to Begin December 5 at Dixon Place

Dixon Place's new musical commission, WAR LESBIAN, will have its world premiere beginning December 5th. Featuring Erin Markey this original musical, with book by Kristine Haruna Lee, music by Kathryn Hathaway and a cast of ten is directed by Jordan Fein in collaboration with harunalee. WAR LESBIAN will play seven performances only - December 5th, 6th, 12th,13th, 19th, and 20th at 7:30PM, and December 20th at 10:00PM at Dixon Place (161 Christie Street).

Sundance Institute Sets Projects, Artists for Fall Theatre Labs

Sundance Institute today announced the projects and artists that will participate in its two Fall artist development programs: the inaugural Playwrights Studio at Flying Point in Water Mill, NY (October 19-26), as well as the two-week Theatre Lab (November 30 - December 14) for musical theatre, ensemble-generated projects and solo work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the initiatives are among the Theatre Program's five annual Labs and Residencies for theatre artists and part of the 24 artist residency labs across many creative disciplines Sundance Institute offers annually.

CREATURES OF HABIT World Premiere Opens Tonight at Dixon Place

Dixon Place will present a world premiere of Creatures of Habit, choreographed by Jonathan Royse Windham to original music composed by Daniel Kazemi. Mr. Windham was recently named one of Dance Magazine's '25 to Watch.' Creatures of Habit will play for three weekends beginning tonight, October 3rd through Saturday, October 18th.

CUZ I JUST GOT TO BE ME...FREE Begins Tonight at Dixon Place

Dixon Place presents new work every month -- theater, puppetry, performance and visual art, music, dance and literature -- at all stages of development. This Fall, Dixon Place will present new-works-in-progress written and performed by current Artist-in-Residence David Cale. On Thursday evenings this month -- September 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:30pm -- Cuz I Just Got To Be Me...Free, a series of workshop performances that feature unfettered new songs, monologues and stories -- each evening a different 45-minute set -- will be performed in The Dixon Place Lounge.

Stew, Nancy Giles, Ted Keegan & More Set for SUPPER AT THE SALON at Dixon Place, 9/15

Dixon Place, Ellie Covan, founder and artistic director, proudly announces SUPPER AT THE SALON, a special evening of dinner and entertainment which will take place on the mainstage theater at Dixon Place on Monday, September 15th, with cocktails beginning in the lounge at 6:30 PM. The evening will include performances by Stew (Passing Strange), Nancy Giles ('CBS Sunday Morning'), Broadway's Ted Keegan (Phantom of the Opera, Cyrano, Camelot), award-winning aerial troupe LAVA, and more to be announced, and will be hosted by Bindlestiff Family Cirkus founder, Keith Nelson. Also that evening, four honorees will receive the iconic Dixon Place mini chair award for their contributions to the arts and support of Dixon Place: award winning actor-writer Peggy Shaw; The Jerome Foundation, celebrating its 50th Anniversary; Dixon Place Board member Eric Jensen, and theater supporter Yoshiko Kakuga.

LOVE & LAUGHTER: ERIN AND HER CELLO Celebrates CD Release at Joe's Pub Tonight

Once upon a time there was a girl in Idaho who loved to play both her cello, and basketball. Sadly, games on the courts clashed with orchestra concerts, and eventually she was forced to choose between the two. The instrument won. She quit the high school team and marched into the future. She still has her cello, her voice, and now Erin and Her Cellois putting out her second album, Petits Bisous (released today, July 31st, 2014).

sElf's Lead Single “Runaway” Featured as iTunes Single of the Week Today

Matt Mahaffey's Tennessee-based project sElf is thrilled to have their lead single 'Runaway' featured as the iTunes Single of the Week starting TODAY as new EP - Super Fake Nice - drops via El Camino Media. sElf will get to perform 'Runaway' for a nationwide audience when the band makes its TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (Weeknights 11:35/10:35C on ABC) on Wednesday, July 30th.
