The new play, GLOUCESTER BLUE, by celebrated writer Israel Horovitz, will be given a workshop production as part of the nine week STRIPPED festival of works about 'sex, murder, revenge...and sex,' presented by Barefoot Theatre Company, in collaboration with East 3rd Productions.
Last night, Broadway divas Chita Rivera, Charlotte d'Amboise, Linda Lavin, composer John Bucchino, the legendary Marilyn Maye, sax man Dave Koz, internet sensation Colleen Ballinger/Miranda Sings and West End leading man/Swedish pop star Peter Jöback were all seen cavorting, cheering and/or entertaining each other at Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland.
Set in Sunnyside, Queens, on that day in 1965 when Pope Paul VI visited New York, John Guare's early, breakthrough play features mockingly observed nuns, a lethal (but farcical) political bombing, a G.I. earmarked for Vietnam and, as a protagonist, a zookeeper who dreams in vain of making it big in Hollywood as a songwriter. As if that weren't enough countercultural loopiness, the zoo keeper, Artie Shaughnessy, has a wife named Bananas who really is bananas and destined for the institution that provides the play's title.
Chanhassen Dinner Theatres has announced that it will extend its currently running Main Stage production of HAIRSPRAY. Originally slated to close on January 28th, HAIRSPRAY will be extended through May 26th, 2012.

Knife Edge Productions, in association with Swinestars Productions, are presenting a revival of Stephen Belber's acclaimed play, Tape, directed by Sam Helfrich. Tape began performances September 9, and continues through September 24 in a limited engagement at the June Havoc Theatre in the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, located at 312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in New York City.
