The Pasadena Playhouse announced that they will present Matthew Lopez's multi-award winning play THE WHIPPING MAN, which will replace the previously announced production of William Gibson's TWO FOR THE SEESAW as the fourth production of the 2014-2015 season. THE WHIPPING MAN is produced in association with South Coast Repertory, where the show will play January 4-25, 2015, and then transfer to The Pasadena Playhouse February 3 - March 1, 2015 with a press opening on February 4.

NBC is bringing in the holiday spirit with the stop-motion hourlong animated special “Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas,” set to air Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. Based on the popular film “Elf” and the hit Broadway show “Elf: The Musical,” the special will star four-time Emmy Award winner Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”) as Buddy.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program presentation of William Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre, directed by Ray Chambers and running November 15 - November 23 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Opening night is Saturday, November 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Beautiful Poison, Cubamor, Great Wall, How To Break, Mary Marie, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes, String and Stu For Silverton make up the eight new musicals that will be presented at the 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals today, October 23, 2014 and Friday, October 24, 2014 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

Round House Theatre continues its 2014/15 season with a magical, fresh new take on a beloved classic - The Nutcracker, a new holiday musical created by Tommy Rapley, Jake Minton, Phillip Klapperich, and Kevin O'Donnell. Directed by the award-winning Joe Calarco, The Nutcracker makes its area premiere at Round House Theatre from November 26 thru December 28, 2014. Opening night is Monday, December 1, 2014.

Rehearsals begin tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21 for the Playwrights Horizons production of POCATELLO, the world premiere of a new play by Obie, Drama Desk and Lortel awards winner and 2014 MacArthur Foundation 'Genius' grantee Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale at PH, The Few, A Bright New Boise). Off-Broadway's award-winning Irish Repertory Theatre has announced the cast for this season's annual holiday offering. Tony Award winner Alice Ripley will lead the cast of the New York premiere of A CHRISTMAS MEMORY, a musical based on the classic Truman Capote short story.

Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU opened on September 28, 2014, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the Globe's 17th annual production ofDr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The holiday musical will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre,part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, November 15 - December 27. Previews run from November 15 - November 19. Opening night is November 20 at 7:00 p.m.

Huntington Theatre Company continues its 2014-2015 Season with Ether Dome, 'an essential story' (Hartford Courant) by Elizabeth Egloff about the advent of ether as an anesthetic and the resulting revolutionary impact on the medical profession.

The Colony Theatre will present the third production of its historic 40thAnniversary season, the West Coast Premiere of HANDLE WITH CARE by Jason Odell Williams, directed by Karen Carpenter. HANDLE WITH CARE will preview on Wednesday, November 5; Thursday, November 6; andFriday, November 7 at 8:00pm. It will open on Saturday, November 8 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, December 14, with no performances Thanksgiving week.

Stage Left Theatre, in association with Theater Wit, announces the upcoming world premiere of Keys of the Kingdom written by Penny Penniston and directed by ensemble member Greg Werstler. Keys of the Kingdom is the second production of Stage Left' s 33rd season. Press opening is Friday, January 16 at 8 PM at Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont. The show runs through February 15.

Roundabout Theatre Company is thrilled to welcome back four-time Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory," Roundabout's Harvey) in a hilarious one-night-only reading of George S. Kaufman and Marc Connelly's Merton of the Movies. The Old Globe invites your participation and coverage as it begins presenting shows through an exciting new producing platform, Globe for All. This free-of-charge tour of a professional production of Shakespeare will allow the theatre to serve more communities throughout San Diego by collaborating with a diverse range of local organizations. Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein directs the first production, Shakespeare's fascinating romance All's Well That Ends Well. He has cast local professional actors, including recent graduates of the Old Globe/University of San Diego Graduate Theatre Program. The first Globe for All free Shakespeare tour will begin October 28 and will culminate in three low-cost performances on November 7 to 9 in the Globe's Hattox Hall, part of the Karen and Donald Cohn Education Center in the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center.

The Old Globe presents Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run through November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Opening night is tonight, October 9 at 8:00 p.m.
