Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts to Present The Klezmatics, 3/8

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 60th Anniversary Season with an afternoon of joyous and uplifting music by the Grammy Award-winning Klezmatics on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3pm. Titled 'Woody Guthrie's Wonder Wheel Tour,' the program pays tribute to the great Woody Guthrie, one of the finest American lyricists of the 20th Century, featuring songs with lyrics penned by Guthrie during the time he lived in Brooklyn, set to music by members of the Klezmatics. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at BrooklynCenter.org or by calling the box office at 718-951-4500 (Tue-Sat, 1pm-6pm).

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College continues its 60th Anniversary Season of music, dance, theater, and family programming for 2014-15, reflecting the multicultural diversity of Brooklyn. The line-up features award-winning performances from Jamaica, Russia, Canada, South Africa, and China as well as the United States, including both Brooklyn premieres and returning favorites.

Marin Alsop to Lead BSO in THE RITE OF SPRING Next Month

Music Director ?Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Also on the Classical Concert Series program are Barber's Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengeance and Osvaldo Golijov's Rose of the Winds (BSO premiere). The Rite of Spring is the subject of Maestra Alsop's third Off the Cuff program of the 2014-2015 season, held Friday, January 9 at 8:15 p.m. at Strathmore and Saturday, January 10 at 7 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. Capitalizing on Marin Alsop's charismatic way of illuminating classical music, the Off the Cuff programs focus on one masterwork, allowing the Maestra to discuss the back story of the piece and the composer's life. Warsaw's Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater to Make First NYC Appearance Since 1980s

The Shalom Foundation and New York's National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene, currently in its historic 100th season, will present The Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska State Jewish Theater from Warsaw, Poland to New York audiences. This is the first time the Polish Yiddish Theater company, also known as The State Jewish Theater, has toured in North America since the 1980's.

Sundance Institute Sets Projects, Artists for Fall Theatre Labs

Sundance Institute today announced the projects and artists that will participate in its two Fall artist development programs: the inaugural Playwrights Studio at Flying Point in Water Mill, NY (October 19-26), as well as the two-week Theatre Lab (November 30 - December 14) for musical theatre, ensemble-generated projects and solo work at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the initiatives are among the Theatre Program's five annual Labs and Residencies for theatre artists and part of the 24 artist residency labs across many creative disciplines Sundance Institute offers annually.

Clearwater Festival Pays Tribute to Pete & Toshi Seeger This Weekend

Great Hudson River Revival (Clearwater Festival) this weekend, June 21 and 22 in beautiful Croton Point Park, Croton-On-Hudson, NY marks the first event since the passing of its founders, musician and activist Pete Seeger and his wife Toshi Seeger. Clearwater 2014 promises to be a special celebration of the Seeger's and their legacy - hosting many Clearwater friends old and new, many of who will perform special musical tributes during the event.

With an array of ideas and images at its source, Reggie Wilson's Moses(es) takes audiences on a captivating journey in six performances at Jacob's Pillow, July 9-13. In the history of the Holocaust, the fate of Hungarian Jews stands out due to the exceptional speed with which their deportation was carried out by the Hungarian authorities cooperating with the Eichmann bureau very late in the war, in summer 1944. Almost half a million people were deported in less than three months, and over half a million were murdered in the course of World War II in forced labour units, in labor and death camps and in various pogroms conducted by Arrowcross men.

This year's lineup includes 60th Anniversary Season opener Bobby McFerrin, a holiday concert by Sweet Honey in the Rock, South Africa's Lady Smith Black Mambazo, a tribute to Woody Guthrie by the Klezmatics, a cappella superstars Take 6, and Eddie Palmieri performing with his Latin Jazz Septet. These musical events reflect the artistic excellence and cultural diversity to which Brooklyn Center is dedicated. The season also features children's concerts by Black Violin and Nick Jr. favorites Hot Peas 'N Butter.
