The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Shakespeare's Globe's critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare's THE MERCHANT OF VENICE in five performances tonight, July 27, through July 30, 2016 in the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater.
London's critically acclaimed Shakespeare's Globe, under the artistic direction of Emma Rice, will light up US stages and screens this summer and fall, with a three-city limited engagement of The Merchant of Venice, which will play limited engagements in New York, Washington, D.C. and Chicago in July and August. Two-time Olivier- and Tony Award-winner Jonathan Prycestars as Shylock. The production is directed by Jonathan Munby.

Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.
