World Music Institute and 92Y to Present Indian Violinist L. Subramaniam This Winter

Centenary Stage Company to Host January THAW Music Festival at Lackland Center

Centenary Stage Company hits the ground running in the New Year with an array of musical guests primed to heat up the Lackland Center for the January THAW Music Festival.  The festival launches on Saturday, January 16 at 2pm with The Duke Ellington Center Big Band under the direction of Mercedes Ellington and their exciting, hand-clapping, finger-snapping, dynamic musical journey from the Jazz clubs of Harlem and the Apollo Theater, to the downtown night clubs and Broadway stages, with 'Duke Ellington:  Composer Beyond Category' . 

Duke Ellington Center Big Band to Perform at Sitnik Theater

'Duke Ellington: Composer Beyond Category' is an exciting, hand-clapping, finger-snapping, dynamic musical journey from the Jazz clubs of Harlem and the Apollo Theater, to the downtown night clubs and Broadway stages, with The Duke Ellington Center Big Band under the direction of Mercedes Ellington. The performance will be held in the Sitnik Theater of Centenary Stage Company's Lackland Center on Saturday, January 16 at 2pm.

January THAW Music Festival Set for Centenary Stage Company's Lackland Center

Music permeates Centenary Stage Company's Lackland Center during the month of January with the January THAW Music Festival. BWW Interview: DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW Opens at Apollo Civic Theatre

This Christmas season, check into the Snowflake Inn while Dashing Through the Snow, a crazy Christmas comedy, opens December 11 at the Apollo Civic Theatre! Directed by Jeff Wine, Dashing Through the Snow takes place four days before Christmas, in a tiny town in Texas, where a colorful array of characters check in to the Snowflake Inn. Varying scenes tell the different holiday stories of all the crazy characters. A brother and sister attempt to end a holiday feud between their aunts. Self-absorbed actors from a low budget "Christmas Carol" production return to the inn to fulfill a promise, while Mrs. Clause and one of Santa's elves attempt a romantic rendezvous right before Christmas Eve!

The Classical Theatre of Harlem to Present THE FIRST NOEL, 12/11-31

This holiday season, The Classical Theatre of Harlem, in collaboration with the Apollo Theater, presents the world premiere of The First Noel. This Harlem- based holiday musical features music that crosses genres-from pop to jazz to gospel - to tell a universal story of love and belonging. Book, lyrics and music by Jason Michael Webb (Motown: The Musical, Violetand The Color Purple) and Lelund Durond Thompson (founder, YellaFella Entertainment and CTH Artistic Associate). Steve H. Broadnax III (Dominique Morisseau's Blood at the Root) serves as director and Brian Harlan Brooks (Motown: The Musical) as choreographer for this holiday presentation, which will take place in the Apollo's soundstage. The First Noel, commissioned by The Classical Theatre of Harlem and in association with Penn State Centre Stage, has been in development for three years and is intended to become a Harlem holiday classic.
