The American Theatre of Actors (ATA) latest production, The Man Who Found Troy, is a fascinating look at the story of Henry Schliemann, who discovered the ancient city of Troy shortly before the turn of the century. The play, written by award-winning, New York playwright, Joe Krawczyk is directed by Eddie Lew, and features Chelsea Clark as Sophia Schliemann, Johnny Blaze Leavitt as Henry Schliemann, Stephen Goodin as Frank Calvert. This cast of 3 also takes turns playing other characters in history, as the 'epic journey' takes place over a 20 year period.
Six directors and 30 actors from the Chicago theatre community will collaborate to create staged readings of six new feminist plays in the Artemisia Fall Festival 2018, to be performed September 24-26 and October 1-3 at The Edge Theater at 5451 N. Broadway. Artemisia Founding Artistic Director Julie Proudfoot and Literary Manager Sharai Bohannon have curated the festival from submissions solicited from writers, agents and literary managers across the US with whom the company has had working professional relationships. One play from the six to be performed will be chosen for further development by Artemisia Artistic Director Proudfoot, who will work closely with the playwright over the next two years to develop their feminist story for a full production in Chicago.
'Blackbird,' is currently being presented at the Sargent Theatre at the American Theatre of Actors. In the play written by David Harrower, Una, a 27 year old woman, shows up at the workplace of an acquaintance, 'Peter', with an axe to grind. Fifteen years earlier, they had a relationship which had ended abruptly. At the time, Peter (or as Una knows him, Ray) was 40.
David Harrower's play, 'Blackbird' will have its Off-Broadway premiere from Thursday, June 7 to Sunday, June 24. 'Blackbird,' deals with sexual abuse.Broadwayworld.com had the pleasure of interviewing Gina Zenyuch who plays Una in the play.

'The conversation is not over.' It's a fitting motto for the upcoming performance of David Harrower's 'Blackbird,' presented by Blackbird Productions OLZ, LLC. The American Theatre of Actors in the Sargent Theater will be the epicenter for this limited engagement. Starting June 7th, show times will be Thursday through Saturday at 8 PM, with a Sunday performance at 3 PM, through June 17th. General admission tickets are $40 each.
