Last night, June 3, MCC Theater kicked-off it's three day presentation of readings from Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's FILTHY TALK FOR TROUBLED TIMES: SCENES OF INTOLERANCE. The company features Craig Bierko, Alice Eve, Johnny Galecki, Josh Hamilton, Justin Long, and Julia Stiles, who will take on a variety of plum LaBute roles in this series of 'shorts.' The readings continue tonight, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Proceeds will benefit MCC Theater's Playwrights' Coalition program, free PlayLab reading series, and literary development activities. Artistic Director Nicholas Martin has announced the casting for the next two productions of the Williamstown Theatre Festival's 2010 Season: Six Degrees of Separation by John Guare (The House of Blue Leaves, Landscape of the Body) playing the Main Stage July 14 - 25, and the world premiere of Samuel J. and K. by Mat Smart (The 13th of Paris, The Hopper Collection) on the Nikos Stage July 7 - 18.

The Tony Award-winning actor Billy Crudup opened the world-premiere of Adam Rapp's play THE METAL CHILDREN, last night, May 19 at the Vineyard Theatre. The show, also directed by Rapp, began previews May 4. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night arrivals.

Williamstown Theatre Festival Presents an all-male production of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM June 30 through July 11. Directing the production will be Jessica Stone. Starring as Pseudolus is Tony Award nominee Christopher Fitzgerald. Yesterday, May 2, Primary Stages concluded its celebratory 25th Anniversary Season with a special celebrity benefit stage reading performance of Godfather IV written by Emmy Award-winner Tom Fontana ('St. Elsewhere,' 'OZ'), with original music by Stephen Elkins. The reading was a collaborative effort between Primary Stages and the Writers Guild of America, East Foundation, for which Fontana is Foundation president. Proceeds from the reading will benefit both organizations. BroadwayWorld was there to capture the event.

Tarell McCraney Joins Steppenwolf Ensemble

The Steppenwolf Theatre Company Ensemble is pleased to announce its newest member, playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. Among his many accomplishments, McCraney is the author of the critically-acclaimed The Brother/Sister Plays, currently playing at Steppenwolf through May 23, 2010. As a playwright, he has collaborated with Steppenwolf ensemble member Tina Landau on seven productions and readings nationally. He also appeared on stage at Steppenwolf in Landau's 2004 production of Theatrical Essays. Additionally, McCraney was recently commissioned by Steppenwolf, through support from the Joyce Foundation Awards, to write a new play for the Steppenwolf ensemble based on the biblical book of Job. The Steppenwolf ensemble, the longest-existing theater ensemble in the U.S., now totals 43 members.

Williamstown Theatre Festival (Nicholas Martin, Artistic Director) announced today that Terry Kinney (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; reasons to be pretty) will direct a production of Lanford Wilson's modern classic Fifth of July, which will play the WTF Main Stage from August 11 - 22, 2010. A co-production with Bay Street Theatre, this gentle comic drama from Wilson's beloved Talley Trilogy will be the final Main Stage production of the season.

Barefoot Theatre Company will present the closing event of the 70/70 Project, a yearlong, worldwide festival showcasing 70 plays by the soon-to-be 71-year-old playwright. The celebration features a reading of Unexpected Tenderness, one of Horovitz's most personal plays, live music, a surprise guest host and more. This special evening will take place at the Bleecker Street Theatre (45 Bleecker between Lafayette and Mott streets) on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010. Cocktail hour is at 7pm; curtain rises at 8. Tickets are $25 per person.
