Quincy Jones to Join Justin Kauflin for Q&A at The Wallis This Friday

On Friday, January 22, Clark Terry protege and jazz pianist Justin Kauflin will be joined on the stage of the Bram Goldsmith Theater by lauded musical producer Quincy Jones for a special Q&A at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. The Q&A will follow the 8pm film screening of Keep On Keepin' On, Alan Hicks' ode to the friendship between the prodigious lifetime Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Clark Terry and Kauflin, and a rousing performance by Kauflin on piano.

Jazz Sensation Justin Kauflin Coming to The Wallis

Quincy Jones and Clark Terry protege, jazz pianist Justin Kauflin, will launch the Next Generation @ The Wallis series on Friday, January 22 at 8pm. Kauflin's performance is the first in a series that focuses the spotlight on rising artists across the performing arts spectrum. Two additional artists, Sean Chen and Steven Lin, will continue the series in February and March 2016.

Chan Centre to Welcome Branford Marsalis for Vancouver Premiere

The Branford Marsalis Quartet was formed in 1986 and quickly raised the bar for other ensembles of its kind. The New York Times praised the group's most recent album release, Four MF's Playin' Tunes (2012), as "a knockout: hard-nosed and hyperacute, tradition-minded but modern." For this Chan Centre appearance, Branford is joined by his stellar, musically adventurous quartet featuring Joey Calderazzo on piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Justin Faulkner on drums.

Jazz Musicians Perform Christmas Favorites at Ware Center Tonight

Harrisburg native jazz pianist Steve Rudolph will perform with exceptional veteran jazz musicians, vocalist Dred 'Perky' Scott and bassist Hassan J.J. Shakur, in a program of jazz interpretations of Christmas favorites tonight, December 4, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ware Center. Favorites will include 'Let It Snow,' Mel Torme's 'Christmas Song,' 'Little Drummer Boy,' 'My Favorite Things,' 'Silent Night,' and many more. All tickets include complimentary beverage service which begins at 7:00 PM with the concert beginning at 7:30 PM. The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.

Pianists Jenny Lin & Uri Caine to Perform Scarlatti, Mozart at LPR, 1/4

Pianists are often presented with a quandary - to improvise or not to improvise. For acclaimed pianists Jenny Lin and Uri Caine, the response to this dilemma is: why not both? Lin and Caine's recent recording collaboration for Steinway & Sons, The Spirio Sessions, combines standard compositions from Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and others with improvisations by Caine, offering a new take on the classics.  Selections from The Spirio Sessions will be performed live at Le Poisson Rouge on January 4, 2016 at 7:30pm. Now in its fourth year as part of the TD James Moody Jazz Festival at NJPAC, the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, also known as the SASSY awards, has chosen five jazz singers to perform in the Victoria Theater. This international jazz vocal competition for women, the only one of its kind, honors the talent of its namesake by giving one outstanding performer a platform to embark on a career in the music business.

The Black Box to Present Live Music Series Event

The Jost Project with Marko Marcinko Set for Jazz in the Sky Series Tonight

The Arts at Millersville University and Harrisburg native, jazz pianist and composer, Steve Rudolph will present The Jost Project with Special Guest Drummer Marko Marcinko as part of the Ware Center's popular Jazz in the Sky series in the Owen Salon overlooking Prince Street tonight, October 9 at 7:30 PM. The band includes vibraphonist Tony Miceli, vocalist/harmonist Paul Jost, and bassist Kevin MacConnell.  Devoted to presenting innovative arrangements of classic rock in a jazz format, The Jost Project plays the music of the 60's and 70's. According to Jazz in Europe, "The Jost Project is, without a doubt, one of the most creative bands I have heard in years."

Music Mountain Presents Harlem String Quartet with Francine Kay & More This Weekend

Music Mountain, America's Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival, continues its 86th anniversary season with another weekend of esteemed artists. Tonight, August 22 welcomes Peter & Will Anderson, with guest Alex Wintz, guitar, performing the best of bebop and jazz (6:30pm). The music continues on Sunday afternoon August 23(3pm) with the Harlem String Quartet and guest artist Francine Kay, piano, performing Beethoven, Turina, Bartok, Borodin, and Dvorak. Concerts are scheduled thru September 27.

Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia Pays Tribute to Billy Strayhorn at Kimmel Center Tonight

Legendary jazz composer Billy Strayhorn's music takes center stage when the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (JOP) plays tribute in the Perelman Theater tonight, May 9 at 8p.m. Presented by the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and under the artistic direction of renowned Philadelphia trumpeter Terell Stafford, the performance celebrates Strayhorn's 100th birthday with a special program including 'Take the 'A' Train,' 'Satin Doll,' and Strayhorn's most famous ballad, 'Lush Life.'
