Following last season's sold-out smash hit Killer Joe, (the Coal Mine's biggest seller alongside this year's Breathing Corpses) by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and Tony Award-winning actor Tracy Letts, SUPERIOR DONUTS is directed by Ted Dykstra, starring Robert Persichini and introducing Nabil Rajo.

The Coal Mine, a new independent theatre in Toronto's east end, founded by Chief Engineers Diana Bentley and Ted Dykstra, proudly presents their third season of fearlessly challenging plays, produced, directed, designed and performed at the highest possible level. With less than 100 seats available per performance, The Coal Mine is inspired by the intimacy and excitement of the off-off-Broadway experience.

?The recipient of the 2016 Silver Ticket Award is Andy McKim, the Artistic Director of Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille. The Silver Ticket was presented to Mr. McKim at the 37th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, held Monday evening, June 27, at Harbourfront Centre's Concert Stage in Toronto.

Coal Mine Theatre presents the Toronto premiere of the edgy and electric INSTRUCTIONS (TO ANY FUTURE SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT WISHING TO ABOLISH CHRISTMAS) from May 29 - June 19. Written by Canadian playwright Michael Mackenzie, directed by David Storch and starring Coal Mine's Artistic Curator Ted Dykstra and Artistic Producer Diana Bentley, this modern-day two-hander examines the shifting and suspect forces that drive the global financial system.

Ted Dykstra's Soulpepper production of the David French comedy JITTERS first premiered in 2010, and is now thriving with a new revival currently playing at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts. Featuring many of the same members of Dykstra's original production, JITTERS is a crisp and refreshing comedy that is so tightly knit it's bursting with confidence. Kevin Bundy, Diane D'Aquila, Geordie Johnson and Oliver Dennis lead this ensemble cast who elevate French's material into a near perfect evening.

Groundling Theatre Company's inaugural production, a full staging of William Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE, will be presented as part of the Coal Mine Theatre's second season of adventurous theatre, running January 28 - February 20, 2016. One of the most psychologically engaging romances in the English language, this intimate chamber production of THE WINTER'S TALE will be directed by Graham Abbey, founder and artistic director of Groundling Theatre Company.

Confederation Centre Artistic Director Adam Brazier was recently called in to step into the production of Evangeline currently gracing the stage in Edmonton after actor Jay Davis took ill and was unable to perform. Jay Davis who plays the lead Gabriel in Charlottetown Festival's EVANGELINE, became ill and lost his voice right before the first preview show.  Davis did not have an understudy, so artistic director, Adam Brazier, had to step in at the last minute to replace him, it was reported.

If you're unfamiliar with The Coal Mine, venture off to Toronto's east-end for the best of indie theatre. The English playwright's poetic follow-up to his international hit Jerusalem, will receive its Canadian premiere with direction by Ted Dykstra; starring David Ferry as The Man, Jane Spidell as The Woman, and Dani Kind as The Other Woman.
