On Monday night, the Obamas hosted a starry event at the White House that was streamed live on the White House Official Website and right here on Broadway World that featured the top talents of the Great White Way singing the very best songs by (mostly) American composers. Among the participants were Elaine Stritch, Nathan Lane, Tonya Pinkins, Brian D'Arcy James, Audra McDonald, Chad Kimball, Karen Olivo and Idina Menzel. Additionally, the concert featured Marvin Hamlisch, who accompanied Idina Menzel on his song from A CHORUS LINE, 'What I Did For Love', who I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing yesterday and whose InDepth InterView will be going live tomorrow. First, a review of the Washingtonian events that were online only until the concert premieres on PBS on October 20.

Julia Murney to join Houston Symphony in September

Broadway star Julia Murney will be joining the Houston Symphony for a special concert series called 'Broadway Rocks!' on September 3, 4, and 5. Three additional vocalists will join Ms. Murney and will be announced at a later date. They will be backed by the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston to perform show stopping numbers from the latest generation of Broadway musicals like Wicked, Mamma Mia, The Lion King, RENT, and more.

GLEE's 5th Album Takes #1 Spot on BillBoard 200 Chart

According to the Nielsen SoundScan roundup, GLEE's 5th album, GLEE: The Music - Journey to Regionals has topped the Billboard 200 Chart in its debut week, selling 152,000 copies. Coming in at number 2 was the 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' soundtrack, selling 144,000 copies, followed by Christina Aguilera's Bioic album, which sold just over 110,000 copies. This reflects her lowest performing album debut to date and her first in four years, having taken time off to start a family.
Leona Lewis Lands Guest Spot on GLEE Next Season?

The U.K. Mirror is reporting that Leona Lewis has landed a guest spot on GLEE next season. GLEE's Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Kevin McHale, among others, are currently in London promoting the show. In an article reporting on the chaos surrounding the Gleeks, with fans and British notables, such as Lilly Allen, alike being denied entrance into their nightspot, the Mirror reveals: 'Poor Lily Allen was ignored outside The Ivy as the photographers battled to get snaps of the Glee cast, including Matthew Morrison, Chris Colfer and Kevin McHale...The only Brit who seemed to have any reason to be gleeful was Leona Lewis, who has landed a cameo role in the next series.
