Ed Asner to Lead Staged Reading of Walter Bagot's ELEVATOR MUSIC at Skylight Theatre, 5/9

Ed Asner, winner of seven EMMY Awards with 20 nominations and five Golden Globes, will star in the staged reading of Walter Bagot's third play, Elevator Music, at the Skylight Theatre. An entertainment icon, Broadway performer, and Television Academy "Hall of Famer," Asner will be sharing the stage with theatre veteran Rob Nagle (recently Rogue Machine's Pocatello, Antaeus, Troubadour, Denver Center, and Arena Stage).

Lone Star Theatre Co. to Present Staged Reading of Judith Leora's SHOWPONY

Judith Leora's SHOWPONY will receive it's first staged reading tonight for Lone Star Theatre Co as part of their on-going Texas Reads series. When a diverse group of women are randomly thrown together, they quickly realize that their cultural training has put them directly in opposition to each other, whether as workhorses, show-ponies or race-horses. Will they figure out how to get past their assigned roles and see each other as people? 

Revisited Classics Stages Free Reading of Anton Chekhov's THREE SISTERS on 3/7

Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters, co-adapted by Shawn Rene Graham and John-Martin Green is transposed to America in the early 1900s.  Set on a cavalry outpost in rural Texas, this is the tale of a group of cultured, intelligent blacks in turn-of-the-century America observing the kind of entitlement that wealthy whites had always taken for granted, and the price they pay for that entitlement. The reading is on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

The Fire This Time Festival Names 2016 Playwrights

Now in it's seventh season, the Obie Award winning The Fire This Time Festival has commissioned seven playwrights to write new 10-minute plays for the 2016 festival, which will run January 18-February 6 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery). The 2016 playwrights will include Tanya Everett (Without Scars with Breast Friends), Keelay Gipson (The Lost at Planet Connections Theater Festivity; N/F at Downtown Urban Theater Festival), Jireh Breon Holder (2012-13 Kenny Leon Fellow, Alliance Theatre), Roger Q. Mason (Onion Creek with Son of Semele Ensemble, Los Angeles), Stacey Rose (2015-16 Dramatists Guild Fellow), Korde Arrington Tuttle (Beautiful Mess in Around the Block: a 5D Project), and Nia Ostrow Witherspoon (Global Arts Fund Grant for The Messiah Complex).

New York Madness will Launch their Season on Sept 22nd at 8pm with Featured Guest Playwright Neil LaBute (The Way We Get By, Bash: Latter-Day Plays, Outer Critics Circle Award for Fat Pig, Independent Spirit Award for In the Company of Men, Reasons to be Pretty, Reason to be Happy, American Academy Arts and Letters.) 

Classical Theatre of Harlem's THE TEMPEST Begins Tonight

The 15th anniversary season of The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) (Ty Jones, Producing Artistic Director; David Roberts, Managing Director) continues with CTH's free, summer, uptown production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented in partnership with City Parks Foundation's SummerStage festival. The Carl Cofield-directed production, which stars New York theater and Broadway veteran Ron Cephas Jones, will transform the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park into an enchanted Caribbean island where the magic takes flight, with an elaborate aerial design elements planned. The third annual CTH Under the Stars presentation holds previews tonight, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run from July 5 through 26.

Chita Rivera, Karen Ziemba & More Join National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene's RAISING THE ROOF Lineup at Town Hall, 6/9

Tony Award-winners Chita Rivera and Karen Ziemba, Norman Norman Jewison, Academy Award-winning director of the 1971 film version of Fiddler on the Roof (Irving Thalberg Award Recipient), and Ambassador Ido Aharoni, Counsul General of Israel, have joined the lineup of Raising the Roof, an all-star benefit concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene, the 50th Anniversary of iconic American musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and the 90th birthday of its Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning lyricist, Sheldon Harnick, on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at New York's The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street).

Jackie Hoffman, Joshua Bell & More Join FIDDLER ON THE ROOF 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert Lineup, 6/9

Joshua Bell, Frank London, Austin Pendleton and Jackie Hoffman have joined the lineup for Raising the Roof - an all-star benefit concert celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof, its Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning lyricist, Sheldon Harnick, and the 100thanniversary of The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene - on Monday, June 9th, at New York's The Town Hall.

Topol, Jerry Zaks, and Andrea Martin Lead Cast of 50th Anniversary Benefit Concert of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF on 6/9

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Fiddler on the Roof, Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning lyricist Sheldon Harnick will be honored and will perform with the largest-ever reunion of original, revival and film cast members as part of an all-star benefit concert for The National Yiddish Theatre - Folksbiene on Monday, June 9th, at New York's Town Hall.

BHT to Premiere France-Luce Benson's FATI'S LAST DANCE, 10/19-12/15

The Billie Holiday Theatre kicks off its 42nd Season Generations United on October 19 with the World Premiere of Fati's Last Dance by France-Luce Benson and directed by the Theatre's Artistic Director Jackie Alexander. Previews begin Saturday, October 19 with the show running through Sunday, December 15 (Opening Night TBD). Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm with matinees on Saturdays at 3pm and Sundays at 4pm.
