Judith Leora's SHOWPONY will receive it's first staged reading tonight for Lone Star Theatre Co as part of their on-going Texas Reads series. When a diverse group of women are randomly thrown together, they quickly realize that their cultural training has put them directly in opposition to each other, whether as workhorses, show-ponies or race-horses. Will they figure out how to get past their assigned roles and see each other as people?

The reading, directed by Illana Stein stars Amy Gaipa, Tanya Everett, Michael Markham, Shaun Bennet Fauntleroy, Meghan VanArsdalen and Twinkle Burke. The reading will take place at the Hourglass Tavern reading room in Manhattan at 8pm. A reception will follow.

The Texas Reads series gives Texas writers the opportunity to workshop their new plays with New York directors and talent.

Judith Leora is a former resident of Houston and a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. Recent work includes: Literally a Bowl of Shit (Racial Madness with Featured Guest Neil LaBute), The Cookie Fight (Last Frontier Theatre Conference), The X and the Y, Bristol Valley Theatre (reading), Heart-Shaped Uterus (MadLab reading), Weird About the Baby, NYC Icon Plays/Ego Actus (production), Elijah (O'Neill Semi-Finalist), Lone Star Theatre (reading), Gideon (production/commission), UMass at Lowell, The Raven (co-librettist), Emerging Actors Theatre. Whether a play is by a Texas playwright, or features Texas talent and ingenuity, Lone Star Theatre aims to bring you entertaining theatrical events that will whisk you away from city life, or as we like to say "Texas pages, New York stages."

Lone Star Theatre's four season includes ALIEN SEX COMEDY by Alan Charnock, SHOWPONY by Judith Leora, SWITZERLAND by Emily Comisar, MAGIC TIME MACHINE by David Davila, and the fourth annual Texas One-Act Play Festival featuring the works of Charnock, Comisar, Leora, Nilsa Reyna, Ryan Ramirez, and Maxwell Martinez.
