UNEXPECTED JOY Extends Through May 27

Due to popular, The York Theatre Company joyfully announces a one-week extension of the New York premiere of the new musical Unexpected Joy, with book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Janet Hood at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue), where performances began April 24, 2018.

UNEXPECTED JOY Opens Tonight

Opening Night is Tonight! The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, in association with Jim Kierstead, Aria Entertainment, Gabby Hanna & Marcy Feller, Riki Kane Larimer, Linda & Craig Wielkotz, Drew Desky & Dane Levens/Michael Mills, William Fernandez/Behzad Dabu, presents the New York premiere of the new musical Unexpected Joy, with book and lyrics by Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Janet Hood (Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens with Bill Russell).

Isabella Rossellini's LINK LINK CIRCUS Comes to Baryshnikov Arts Center

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) presents the American premiere of Link Link Circus, written and performed by the Golden Globe-nominated actress and filmmaker Isabella Rossellini, for seven performances only, May 16-23, 2018, at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater (450 W. 37th Street, Manhattan). Following Rossellini's widely acclaimed theatrical lecture Green Porno (adapted from the celebrated Sundance Channel series of the same name), which explored the sexual behavior of animals, Link Link Circus addresses the latest scientific discoveries about animal minds, intelligence, and emotions.

First Revival of Jordan Harrison's MAPLE AND VINE Begins May 11 At The Flea

New York Deaf Theatre (NYDT) celebrates their 38th season with an accessible production of MAPLE AND VINE by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. The production marks the New York theater directing debut of award-winning Deaf film director Jules Dameron. Previews begin May 11 at the Flea Theater with a gala performance on May 12 and an official opening on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00pm.

BWW Interview: Director Karen Connor of INTO THE WOODS at Southgate Community Players says It's Funny and Poignant Sondheim Show!

The Sondheim favorite, Into the Woods, will close out the 2017-2018 Main Stage productions of the Southgate Community Players and is opening May 4th in Southgate. In this Tony-Award winning book and score, James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim bring together classic storybook characters with a production that is both enchanting and touching. Characters venture 'into the woods' with hopes of having their wishes granted, but later learn the dire consequences of their actions. The musically supplicated show pulls the audience in multiple emotional directions - captivating and bewitching them from beginning to end. BroadwayWorld Detroit had a moment to speak with Karen Connor, SCP's director for Into the Woods, about her love for the theatre and gain some insight on the show.

In Colette Freedman's BLIND SPOTS, politics become personal when the homophobic, reactionary president of a small New England college tries to quiet her sister's poison pen by blackmailing her, leading to a showdown in which dark family secrets are exposed. The play is produced and directed by Constance Dalton-Pawle and will be presented at the Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre, as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, June 1st -22nd, 2018.
