The objectives of the Southgate Community Players are to study and promote community theater, to encourage talent and to afford the membership opportunities to work with and in dramatic productions. Also to help foster cultural interests in this organization and the community and to always maintain high standards of entertainment.

In 1957, two members of the St. Pius parish church in Southgate set out to present a minstrel show. After that initial show, plans were made to continue this new-found tradition. They elected officers and instituted a constitution and from those humble beginnings, the St. Pius Players were born. Initially original scripts were written and performed by members. This group would later break ties with St. Pius and join the Community Theatre Association of Michigan becoming known as the Southgate Community Players. Currently SCP presents their Main Stage season of two musicals and a straight show, alongside other productions at the Corner Playhouse, including their youth productions, and interactive shows.

Southgate Community Players are happy to be in their 61st season. Some of SCP's past productions include: Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, A Chorus Line, Annie, Miss Saigon, The Odd Couple, West Side Story, City of Angels, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Steel Magnolias, Rent, Guys and Dolls, The Rocky Horror Show, Disney's Beauty & the Beast, Chicago, Disney's The Little Mermaid, Laramie Project
