Houston Grand Opera (HGO) will present its 2019-20 season with a broad repertoire of operas in productions that have never been seen by Houston audiences. The 65th season will open October 18, 2019, with Verdi's classic Rigoletto. Tomer Zvulun returns to direct the season opener after successfully opening the 2018-19 season with his production of The Flying Dutchman. American baritone Brian Mulligan sings his first Rigoletto leading an outstanding cast filled with renowned HGO Studio alumni, including Mexican tenor Arturo Chacon-Cruz as the Duke of Mantua and Armenian soprano Mane Galoyan as Gilda. Paired with Rigoletto is the North American premiere of the dramatic oratorio Saul in a much-lauded and imaginative production by Barrie Kosky. Christopher Purves returns to the title role after his celebrated performance at the Glyndebourne Festival and is joined by countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen and Korean soprano Pureum Jo, both HGO Studio alumni.
This week's Konversations with Keeme features Lieutenant Thomas Roncinske. He's a 29 year veteran of the Norwalk Police department and the Division Commander, directing a team of two sergeants, four investigators and eight School Resource Officers. He is responsible for the investigations of all serious crimes perpetrated against children, juveniles and the elderly and for coordinating school security for the Norwalk School District. He is also responsible for coordinating the preparation & follow up of Juvenile Court cases. He is also the Commanding Officer of The ESU Scuba Team and is an Adjunct college professor at Sacred Heart University. The Lieutenant will be taking part in our 'Finding your voice in self defense' workshop on Feb. 3rd. New work by an international group of New York City artists,'Black Garden', which made its world premiere in Paris, France, in September at the Theatre de l'Opprime, will perform its North American premiere at The Tank NYC this February. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's virtuosic musicians serve as musical tour guides for In Focus, the Orchestra's compelling chamber music series curated by Concertmaster Margaret Batjer, which provides insights into the quintessence of some of the great chamber music repertoire through the lens of LACO artists in an intimate setting. This spring LACO offers three In Focus programs, each presented at both the Moss Theater at New Roads School at The Herb Alpert Educational Village in Santa Monica and Rothenberg Hall, The Huntington in San Marino. Batjer leads a LACO-commissioned world premiere by Juan Pablo Contreras; LACO violinists, stand-mates and husband and wife Carrie Kennedy and Joel Pargman are showcased on Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins; and the series concludes with impressionistic gems by Ravel, Debussy and Kodaly.
