New York Choral Society (NYCS) will close its' 52nd season with a performance of Antonín Dvo?ák's powerful Stabat Mater on May 1, commemorating the death of the great composer on May 1,1904. The performance will feature acclaimed soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford, tenor Yeghishe Manucharyan and bass-baritone Burak Bigili accompanied by the Brooklyn Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall at 2pm.
A revival of Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades will open at the Met on March 11, with a cast led by Karita Mattila as Lisa, a role she sang in the production's 1995 premiere. Mattila's three co-stars are singing their roles for the first time at the Met: Vladimir Galouzine, one of the world's leading interpreters of Hermann; Swedish baritone Peter Mattei as his romantic rival Yeletsky; and dramatic mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick as the Countess. The energetic Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons leads the opera for the first time at the Met, in a revival of Elijah Moshinsky's 1995 staging. The opera, which is based on a Pushkin story, will also feature Tamara Mumford as Pauline and Alexey Markov as Tomsky.

Glimmerglass Opera's 2009 summer Festival Season features Verdi's La Traviata; Rossini's retelling of the Cinderella story, La Cenerentola; Menotti's The Consul and dramatized concert performances of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, which will run in repertory in July and August in the company's Alice Busch Opera Theater.

Music Director James Levine conducts the evening of 26 staged scenes that, with the use of projections, and scenic and costume recreations, will evoke the Met's illustrious history.
Verdi's popular masterpiece Rigoletto returns to the repertory on January 24 with baritone Roberto Frontali making his Met role debut as the hunchback jester and conductor Riccardo Frizza in his company debut. They are joined by Aleksandra Kurzak as Gilda and Giuseppe Filianoti as the Duke of Mantua, both of whom are also singing their roles for the first time at the Met. Viktoria Vizin makes her Met debut as Maddalena, and Mikhail Petrenko sings his first Sparafucile with the company. Georgian bass George Gagnidze makes his Met debut on January 27 in the title role and sings the following five performances through February 12. Piotr Beczala, whose performances as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor last fall drew wide acclaim, sings the Duke on February 12. A second run of performances begins April 1 and features the first Met Gilda of Diana Damrau, who earlier this season created a sensation with her interpretation of the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor. She will be partnered with Joseph Calleja as the Duke and Roberto Frontali as Rigoletto. Frontali returns for the April performances which run through April 17.
