Over 500 volunteer ushers were honored at the annual Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Usher Appreciation Party on May 10. The ushers were applauded for their dedication and generosity in volunteering their time; without them the City-owned theater would not be able to operate. All the City Commissioners were in attendance and the then-outgoing Commissioners Atwell and Chapman were acknowledged for their strong support of the Hall over the years.

This morning, Florida Studio Theatre broke ground on the New Gompertz Theatre, a multi-year capital improvement campaign that includes renovating the 6,000 sq. foot Gompertz Theatre and constructing an 18,000 sq. foot addition with two new theatre spaces.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has chosen Sarasota, Florida as the sixth partner city for Any Given Child, a program that creates a long-range arts education plan for students in grades K-8.
