WINTER JAZZ FESTIVAL Heats Up the Blue Note Jazz Club Stage From January 19-31

Five incredible Latin Jazz legends will heat up the Blue Note stage at the Winter Latin Jazz Festival from January 19 to 31. The festival will start with jazz flutist Dave Valentin and conga legend Candido from Jan. 19 - 20. Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and his Latin jazz group will finish up the week from Jan. 21 - 24. Argentinian saxophonist Gato Barbieri will play from Jan. 25 - 27, and percussionist Poncho Sanchez will finish up the festival from Jan. 28 - 31.

Columbia University School of the Arts, Theatre Arts Program Presents BLACK SNOW, 2/3-2/6

Columbia Stages presents Black Snow by Mikhail Bulgakov, directed byMikhael Tara Garver and produced in association with The New Ensemble. On astormy night, Sergei sits alone with his first great novel in a small room inMoscow. A knock at the door propels him down the rabbit hole into an adventureof ridiculous proportions. This world premiere event melds together thehilarious and stunning adaptation by Keith Reddin with an epic original scoreby Andrew Gerle and Royce Vavrek. From the thunderous sound of the keys, thetrue music of a man's voice battles with your expectations. Performances for 'Black Snow' will be held February 3-6.

Spike Lee's PASSING STRANGE Gets PBS Broadcast, 1/13

The show universally applauded for its originality, deep emotional resonance, and powerful, high-octane score, makes its broadcast debut on THIRTEEN'S Great Performances on PBS. Passing Strange, the Spike Lee-directed film featuring the award-winning Broadway rock musical of the same title, will air in primetime on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 9 p.m. EST (check local listings).

New York Festival of Song Presents KILLER B's 1/13 At The Peter Jay Sharp Theater

New York Festival of Song (NYFOS, www.nyfos.org), who 'redefined the song recital with daring and dramatic programming' (The New Yorker), presents its fifth annual program with the Department of Vocal Arts at The Juilliard School on Wednesday January 13, 2010 at 8 PM, Killer B's-American Song From Amy Beach to the Beach Boys.

On Monday, November 16, 2009 two hundred and fifty people gathered at the Edison Ballroom to celebrate the 31 years of Arts Horizons. The evening was hosted by Lauren Glassberg of WABC-TV. Founded in 1978, by John Devol, Arts Horizons has presented programs to over seven million students, teachers and community members. Professional, dedicated teaching artists from Broadway, Lincoln Center and all over the world motivate young people through the arts to attain new heights of learning. The programs serve all populations PreK-12, with a special emphasis on at-risk students and those with special needs.
