The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center has teamed with Restoration Stag to bring the popular musical 'Veils' to the Los Angeles area for a short run Thursday, September 15, and Friday, September 16 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, September 17 at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 18 at 8 p.m. at the Nate Holden Performing Art Center.

Restoration Stage has announced the Los Angeles cast of Steven A. Butler, Jr.'s 'Veils, The Musical.' 'Veils, The Musical' will be presented at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center after its' critically-acclaimed run in Washington, DC.

The Downtown Urban Arts Festival today announced its 2019 artist line-up for the 17th annual multi-disciplinary arts festival showcasing music, poetry, live theater and film. The five-week Downtown Urban Arts Festival performs April 11-May 18 at Joe's Pub, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The Wild Project and Tribeca Film Center, respectively.

In Spring 2019, the Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF) will return for its much-anticipated 17th annual season. Reg E. Gaines, Tony-nominated for Bring in da Noise Bring in da Funk, is back as the Artistic Director of the festival. After his evaluation of scripts that were received from across the U.S., the following writers and their plays were selected as the finalists for the 2019 season.

Steven A. Butler, Jr., a Maryland native, has a truly compelling story about his La Plata great-great grandparents, whose love blossomed when the Jim Crow, Blackface era was at its height. With talent and drive, they struggled against the odds and against an exploitative white manager to operate a touring circus featuring only performers of color.

On Tuesday, January 10, the National YoungArts Foundation introduced 20 up-and-coming young actors and 6 jazz musicians to audiences at New World Center in Miami.

Six D.C.-area playmakers have been selected to participate in the third installment of Playwrights' Arena, a year-long program that invites a small group of local theater makers to investigate their artistic process and develop their dramaturgical practice. The program is co-facilitated by Arena Stage Deputy Artistic Director Seema Sueko and Dramaturg Jocelyn Clarke, and participants convene once per month at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.
