Beginning tomorrow, April 6th, Laura Jordan will join the cast of Off-Broadway's smash hit SILENCE! The Musical as Clarice Starling. Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run at the end of 2012, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records held by the show. Subsequently, the producers determined that the production would reopen on January 19th. After opening initially at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011, SILENCE! was extended numerous times by popular demand and transferred theatres twice, ultimately landing at the new Elektra Theatre in Times Square which was constructed especially for the show.

The company of the first North American tour of WICKED will welcome Alison Luff as Elphaba and John Davidson as The Wizard on Tuesday, April 30 in Dallas, TX.

The company of the second North American tour of WICKED will welcome Jennifer DiNoia as Elphaba, Hayley Podschun as Glinda and David Nathan Perlow as Fiyero tonight, April 3 in Rochester, NY.

The first revival of Pippin is in previews now, set to open on April 25, so producer Barry Weisler guided a tour to show off all the chaos of the pre-performance backstage at the Music Box Theatre. Spiro Veloudos, Producing Artistic Director, today announced 5 of the 7 plays slotted for The Lyric Stage's 2013-14 season. SILENCE! The Musical is kicking off its new spring playing schedule today, March 30th. The smash hit show will now play Saturdays at 2 & 7 PM and Sundays at 5 PM at the Elektra Theatre in the heart of Times Square.

Earlier today I had the distinct pleasure of speaking with Broadway headliner and SMASH Season Two breakout star Jeremy Jordan. In discussing a wide range of topics and covering the vast majority of his career thus far in anticipation of the NY Pops Stephen Schwartz concert event, THE WIZARD & I: THE MUSICAL JOURNEY OF STEPHEN SCHWARTZ, on April 12 at Carnegie Hall, Jordan revealed preliminary information about the forthcoming feature film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown's celebrated THE LAST FIVE YEARS, co-starring Anna Kendrick, and what follows are some of his initial impressions of the project, as well as new details about what we can expect from the highly anticipated Richard LaGravenese-directed movie musical that begins rehearsals this weekend and set to start shooting in June.

As an undergraduate theater major in the early 1970s, I heard music everywhere. It seemed to pour out of every office and workspace around the department. (And in the LP era, if you wanted more than the radio, this meant schlepping a twenty pound record player and a dozen or so albums from your home to the campus, sometimes requiring back-and-forth trips from the car. If you go to that much trouble, you want to keep the music playing.) In the hushed costume shop with its quietly industrious all female staff, Broadway ruled, with Stephen Sondheim's recent Company and Follies in heavy rotation. It was 'men only' in the scene shop where I listened to male balladeers like James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot while unhappily working off assigned crew hours. Jazz classes (my favorites) in the dance department were conducted to the pre-disco sounds of Isaac Hayes and the Temptations. And late night cast parties were never complete without spins of Bette Midler's first two albums.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced national awardees for outstanding work from the regional festivals that were held January 8 through March 3, 2013. Individual awardees and a representative from each of the outstanding productions will travel to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for an expenses-paid trip to participate in the 45th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 15-20, 2013.

Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's beloved coming-of-age musical comedy Pippin began performances on Saturday, March 23 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). This all new production is directed by Diane Paulus featuring choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (also known as 7 Fingers).
