Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's beloved coming-of-age musical comedy Pippin began performances on Saturday, March 23 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). This all new production is directed by Diane Paulus featuring choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (also known as 7 Fingers). Beginning Saturday, April 6th, Laura Jordan will join the cast of Off-Broadway's smash hit SILENCE! The Musical as Clarice Starling. Following the announcement that SILENCE! would be ending its long run at the end of 2012, ticket sales unexpectedly soared, shattering all previous box office records held by the show. Subsequently, the producers determined that the production would reopen on January 19th. After opening initially at Theatre 80 on July 9, 2011 to unanimous rave reviews, SILENCE! was extended numerous times by popular demand and transferred theatres twice, ultimately landing at the new Elektra Theatre in Times Square which was constructed especially for the show.

The Los Angeles based Festival of New American Musicals was formed specifically to cultivate new American musicals and nurture America's musical youth. SHOWSEARCH, the Festival's nation-wide search for the best ten minute musical written by 16-to-25-year-olds crowned its winners March 23rd in Los Angeles at the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts, in cooperation with the LAUSD. Check out the video below!

The producers of PIPPIN announced today that a limited number of $37.00 rush tickets will be available for purchase in-person at the Music Theatre box office (239 West 45th Street) when it opens at 10am (Noon on Sundays) for that day's performance only. There is a limit of one ticket per person. Tickets are subject to availability and may not be offered at all performances. Cash or Credit is accepted.

Opening is set for Thursday, April 25. On March 23rd only, box office hours have been extended to 10:00 p.m. to accommodate any patrons seeking to purchase advance tickets.

American Opera Projects (AOP) announces the return of its popular Composers & the Voice program for its 2013-14 season. Created and led by Composers & the Voice Artistic Director Steven Osgood, six composers or composer/librettist teams will be selected for a year-long fellowship, working with the company's Reside nt Ensemble of Singers and Artistic Team. Applications and additional information can be found at AOP's website www.operaprojects.org/composers_voice. The deadline for applications is May 17, 2013. All sessions will be at AOP's home base in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Wayne State University's Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to announce 'A Conversation with Apple Award Recipient Elaine Stritch' at the Hilberry Theatre on April 27 at 4 p.m. Stritch will appear on campus as the recipient of the 2013 Apple Award and will entertain her audience in an 'Actors Studio' style interview and question-and-answer session.
